~Soul's POV~

"Maka! Watch it!" I yelled pulling on Maka's arm, watching her feet as she stumbled toward me with a gasp.
"Be more careful would ya?" I scolded throwing my hands in the air.
The ground shook and a loud crash rushed through the air.
Maka grunted and rolled her eyes.
"Looks like we got company." She muttered taking a few steps back.
I grabbed her by the hand and stepped back over to her.
"Maka, what happened was my fault, but right now, it's now or nothing and if you don't pick it up and fight it'll be the end for both of us."
Maka huffed, her gaze wandering from mine.
"Maka just li-!" I began before getting cut off.
"Soul I get it just come on we haven't got all day now" she said rushing me.
'Geez first she's hesitating and now she's rushing me... You can't make up your mind can you Maka...' I thought as I formed into a scythe right between Maka's fingers.
Another loud crash rang out amongst the buildings and Maka's feet picked up heading toward the crash.
She came to a sudden halt. I watched her as she stared into the cloud of smoke that covers the path in front of us.
Maka's expression changed and I followed her eyes to the source of her astonishment. I growled watching the husky figure emerge from the dust.
"Come on Maka let's get this done..." I egged on bringing my gaze back to her still frozen face.
The figure pushed closer to us laughing in a low tone.
"Maka! What the hell! Come on!" I pushed watching her frozen in her tracks.
"What is it?! You have to let me in on these things Maka! Or you'll get us both killed!" Maka's expression changed and she gritted her teeth.
"Soul, like this we have no chance. His wavelength is enormous..." I growled gritting my teeth.
"Maka listen to me!" I said raising my voice slightly. "I don't care how much you don't want to resonate with me right now! But we don't have a choice! We're gonna get crushed!"
Maka stepped back as the figure swung at us.
"Shit Maka focus!" I yelled. She nodded I swung messily hitting the figure.
Her feet met the ground and her breath quickened. She looked at me running her finger across the edge of the blade.
"Are you ready then, Soul?" she asked pushing her eyes to the ground.
"I've been ready..." I remarked with confidence.
"Soul! It's time! Soul resonance!" She proclaimed.
A tingle, almost like pain ran through my body. The resonation was different, something changed.
'Is it the blood? No. We've resonated with the black blood before.'
"M-Maka..."I stuttered quietly through the pinching pain that ran across my skin. "Wh-what's happening?"    "Something's trying to disrupt our wavelengths. Soul stop over thinking and clear your head! That's the only way we can get through this!"
'Shit... My head is clouded... But are my thoughts really interrupting our resonance. I have to figure this out quick or we're done for...'

~Maka's POV~

"What is it?! You have to let me in on these things Maka! Or you'll get us both killed!" My face changed, I unnoticeably gritted my teeth.

"Soul, like this we have no chance. His wavelength is enormous..." I flinched slightly as I heard him growl.

"Maka listen to me!" Soul yelled. "I don't care how much you don't want to resonate with me right now! But we don't have a choice! We're gonna get crushed!" I looked down, feeling slightly stubborn.

I dodged a swing from the figure before us.  "Shit Maka focus!" Soul yelled. I clenched my jaw and nodded, swinging at the figure and hitting it. I closed my eyes for a brief moment, thankful I had hit him.

I landed, my breathing uneven. I looked down at Soul's blade. I ran my fingers gently across the edge.

"Are you ready then, Soul?" I asked, looking down at the ground instead of at him. I didn't want to stare for too long.
