A/N: I tried to make this video thingy as close as I can to the actual video, but no promises.
Needless to say, the Conspirators had put off progression on the music video for You're A Lie. The tour started in officially less than a month, which was a tad bit nerve wracking in terms of what needed to be done. We were traditionally easy to work with, however, so we could realistically get all the filming we needed done in a whole day.
For starters, we had to deal with what we wanted to do for the video. Thanks to my little tip-off, which I believed would be worth the beating I got for it in the long-run, Sonic was going to play the girl in the song. The director had been given notes that Jazzy had taken and created what he assumed to be a mixture of our creative visions.
First, we would be filming what I considered to be the easy part of everything; us actually playing. The filming location for most of this was an abandoned dome of a building, but thanks to the money we were making and the budgets that we could personally set, Doug and Doc bought it on their share of the money, and we 'paid' an extra share to rent the space. Whilst the director's team built the sets for the more 'video'-ish parts of the video, we would play on a platform surrounded by gold-bronzey lights.
I wore a cropped leather jacket, a tight Guns N' Roses shirt, dark wash skinny jeans, and converse. Each one of the girls had similar clothing on in their own styles. We all had pretty vampy makeup, and we even got to dust ourselves with bronzey powder. I personally made myself look a little grungier, and Trixie did her facial contouring with black eyeshadow to look more skullish.
We ended up playing that song at least six times in a row. We had to redo the takes from all sorts of different and crazy angles, and then we all performed our individual parts by ourselves for singular shots; since editing magic could just put the recorded version of the audio right over it, it was okay to have so many wacky reruns. Of course, after the performing, we had a photoshoot to go with the video. Jasmine promised that more advertising would be pushed out soon.
Next, we had to do the parts of the video with Sonic as the main girl, which included a hotel window and a checkered bathroom floor. It would, in a nutshell, start with her trying to be seductive, and then her having a complete crying fit and a meltdown. I personally thought that the beating would be worth it later. Seeing her look like a hot mess would put a dent in her image, even if it seemed to have overall positive results.
To start, we put a blonde wig on her, which looked pretty weird considering that her 'normal' hair color was a cobalt blue. Then, we added significantly big false eyelashes, a thick layer of eyeliner on the top and bottom, and a seriously overdone amount of mascara, so that when she cried, there would be lots of black dripping. She was wearing a lacey white garment.
"Alrighty, then, Ms. Blaire," our director told her once she was in costume, "I'm going to need you to first give me some seduction, darling. Smirk into the camera, beautiful, make me want you." On a professional level, of course, I took this seriously; the band meant more to me than any extreme personal issues with these girls. But on a personal level, I thought this was downright hilarious, even somewhat satirical in manner. It wasn't that Sonic wasn't aesthetically pleasing, because she was beautiful, I couldn't take that from her; she was just really bad at trying to look seductive. I personally thought she was simply trying too much.
Next came the parts where she started to cry and scream and throw a fit. "Try to look a bit mad," the director told her through the megaphone. "Almost like it's driving you insane." At first, you could tell it was all forced acting. It took a bit to get her to cry, which I had to say, seemed difficult. There were some people that just couldn't make themselves cry on cue; I certainly wasn't one of them, and apparently, neither was Sonic.
