“Hey guys!” Lou says cheerfully, “How is everyone?”
There are mumbles of “good” and “tired” from all of the boys.
I don’t know if I’ve ever called a boy beautiful before but all of them fit the description pretty easily. I recognize them from the little knowledge I have of them while researching them this weekend. Niall Horan, is the shortest one and the one with blonde hair that is swooped up and looked like he had just been in a very windy place. He was smiling widely. Zayn Malik is the tan one with a very sleepy expression, dark hair and a few tattoos that I can see. And then there is Liam Payne who has very thick eyebrows and hair that can’t seem to decide where it wants to go but is flawless at the same time and Louis Tomlinson who looks like the cartoon Peter Pan brought to life with his hair swept all to one side. Then there is, Harry Styles with brown curls falling just above his eyebrows so that his blues eyes shine. There is something about him in particular that catches my eye as an artist immediately and captures me. I don’t know what it is but for a moment I can’t look away.
None of them have noticed me yet, which makes me extremely paranoid. In school I was always invisible, am I invisible here too?
“Where’s Lux?” Zayn asks as they all step inside of her flat, their loud boots clomping against the hard wood floor. They are all tall or taller than me probably. I’m average height of about 5’4.
“I just put her down for a nap ten minutes ago or so.” Lou explains, “She’ll be up before we leave though. I’m sure she’ll be happy to see you lot as always.”
Suddenly Harry’s eyes fall on me and a wide spread smirk appears across his face “Well, well, well, who have we here?” He crosses his arms over his chest and I feel all of the other boys stare at me in confusion.
I don’t know where to look now except straight at Harry who’s eyes meet mine. He takes a step towards me and tilts his head in interest. I can tell he’s trying to make me nervous now and that bugs me so I hold my ground, sit up a little straighter and keep my multicolored eyes locked on his blue ones.
“Oh right!” Lou said excitedly, “Boys this is my new assistant. She’ll be working with us from now on so you have to be nice to her!”
“What’s your name love?” Louis asks nicely smiling in a very friendly way which is much more inviting than Harry’s smile. He is still staring at me, his eyes scan over my whole body, looking me up and down. I squirm slightly under his gaze and he chuckles making me even more annoyed than I was before.
“Evan.” I answer simply not wanting to trip over any extra words in fear of stuttering.
“Evan?” Zayn wonders raising an eyebrow.
“Yes.”
“Did your parents really want a boy or something?” Niall asks seeming genuinely confused or interested.
“No, it’s short for Evangeline.” I tell them
Lou steps in pulling out a huge makeup bag and setting it on a nearby counter, “Make sure to make Evan feel welcome guys! I know she’s gorgeous but don’t all flirt with her at once. Maybe you should start by actually introducing yourselves while I set up?” I blush a little bit at her introduction.
“Right!” Liam nods in agreement and turns towards me, “I’m Liam, great to have you here.”
Zayn clears his throat, “Zayn and what Liam said, I’m sure you’ll do great.”
“I’m Niall,” says Niall giving me a warm smile that almost forces me to smile back but my nerves get the better of me and I bite my lip instead.
“I’m Louis, and I hope that you are able to make us look beautiful.” Louis tells me in such an earnest voice that I can’t help but chuckle briefly.
“And I’m Harry.” He adds an infuriating wink at the end. It reminds me of the guys at the bar I used to work at. Guys who think they are Gods gift to the earth and that every woman on earth should swoon at their feet. I can’t tell if he’s joking or serious either.
“Excuse Harry’s lack of subtlety.” Louis apologizes on Harry’s behalf.
“He thinks your fit.” Niall translates honestly looking over at me.
Harry scoffs a little bit but doesn’t deny it at all.
I feel my eyes widen, and my cheeks flush red, “Right…” I say nodding.
“Boys sit down over there!” Lou commands pointing to where I am, “Liam I’ll start with your makeup if that’s alright?”
Liam shrugs and makes his way over to Lou while the other boys make a b-line straight towards me. Zayn and Harry sit on the couch across from me, while Louis and Niall pull chairs from the kitchen table and sit on either side of me.
“So Evan how old are you?” Louis starts the conversation
“I’m 19.” I answer them trying to control my voice and not stare at any of them for too long. They all exchange glances and grins upon me saying my age.
“Zayn and Liam and I are 19 too, Louis is 20, and Harry’s 18 but likes an older woman.” Niall jokes and I feel my cheeks flush once again, “Are you a student?” Niall questions raising an eyebrow
I shake my head, “Nope I dropped out.”
“Wasn’t you scene,” Louis jokes
“Nope,” I say seriously which throws them all off a little bit and they laugh nervously. I’m probably coming across as a total bitch which I really don’t want too. I’m not very good at the whole talking to people my age thing though. “I’m sorry,” I say suddenly before I can stop myself, “I don’t mean to be cold or bitchy, this is my first job and I’m nervous and-”
“Sorry for making you nervous.” Harry says smugly with a cheeky grin having an obvious alternative meaning to what he was saying.
I purse my lips and roll my eyes in annoyance, “Right.”
Harry sighs and shakes his head like I’m the one being annoying and says, “Oh come on! I was joking! Can’t you take a joke! Most girls think charming!” He explains smartly.
I can not hold my tongue this time, I’m too annoyed now. “It’s cocky and obnoxious and I am not most girls.” I retaliate “Please quit staring at me and quit smirking at me like that.” I stand up suddenly, “Excuse me.” I excuse myself to go help Lou or basically to get away from Harry.
As I walk away I hear a few whistles and someone says “Feisty,” and I think it’s Louis who says, “I like her”. I also have a striking suspicion that they are all checking out my bum, which is confirmed when I turn around and see them all staring and then quickly look away. I groan.
Well this is certainly going to be an interesting job.
