Prologue
November 16,1842
The night shadow following our evident path, tears and shouts of terror came from those beside me. As our carriage pedalled into the darkness of the unhallowed path, my dear beloved screams of pain. She is carrying what the possessed demon desires, our unborn child.
A high pitched scream echoed throughout the undead woods. As I was making my escape from the capsized carriage, I glanced at my wife's shadow spreading at the tip of my eye, surrounded by a pool of blood, she began to slowly fade from my eyes.
Soulless black eyes starred back into mine, desiring my every move, I leaned forward reaching for her arm. My eyes slithered down towards her stomach just to see a vast chunk of wood penetrated into her abdomen. Bloodshot red spread all over her styling bright fabric clothes.
"Save him", she whispered faintly into the shadows of the night.
"Amelia, my love, hold on tight" I said while ripping apart any fabric covering her delicate body leaving her unclothed figure laying on the surface of the open road.
I scooped the area in hopes that our savior would emerge from the foggy mist and come to our rescue. The world around me darkened and reality sank in, we were helpless, hopeless, and vulnerable. I felt my heart beat ringing in my ears, as I frantically searched for anything sharp, that would in fact help with the open wound. At last I came across a shard of glass. I held my breathe as I slit her stomach open. Her agonizing screeches made me hesitate.
"I trust you." , she said, softly grabing my wrist pulling it closer to her pale skin.
From the expression on her face I knew that if there was any chance of our child surviving, it was slim. I continued opening the womb. I quickly inserted my hands inside the womb, and attained the baby. I felt my heart sink when I saw a wound in his abdomen as well.
"H-he's dying.", I stuttered. I glanced up looking for an answer from Amelia, but all I saw was her pale, lifeless face.
"Amelia! Amelia!', I shouted, feeling all the blood rush to my head.
It was useless, her gaze was lost. All that was left was our child, which in a matter of moments would be a vague memory. As all faith was lost, I feel a suspicious presences. I slowly turned around until I was face to face with a repulsive dark cloud of smoke. His misty white eyes piercing through my soul.
"Quite a predicament you're in.", he said mischievously as a slight smile creeped onto his face.
"Can you do something? Please? Can you save him?", I pleaded, feeling ashamed of myself having to come to this. Then again, it was the only option I had.
The demon's eyes grew wider, and so did his smile. " I ask for one simple token in return", he paused,
I starred, utterly confused at what he meant.
"A life for a life." He finally added.
Every word that came out of his mouth was a dagger plunged into my heart. Yet, it was my son's life on the line. So, I accepted with a simple nod...then it began.
