(Most of this chapter is a flashback. The writing in bold is Hunter talking and the writing that's underlined is Jayden talking.)

Call me

He couldn't believe her. After everything he'd done for her.

After all they'd been through.

Just thinking about the conversation he'd just overheard made him want to tear the senior's head off.

"Here."

"Thanks."

"Sorry again about Annie. I wish I could say she didn't mean to knock your books out of your hand."

"It's okay."

"So...you didn't call."

Call? Why would she call?

"You said to call if I needed anything. I didn't need anything."

When was that?

Maybe when he saw them at the coffee shop.

"Oh. See, I thought you'd lost my number or something."

"Well. I didn't."

"Oh. Wanna do something tonight?"

Were they friends now?

"I can't."

Good.

"Why?"

"I've got plans. With a really big tequila bottle."

He laughed.

She made a joke. A joke.
And he laughed. He laughed at her joke.

"You're ditching me for a bottle of tequila."

"Pretty much."

He laughed again.

Another joke. Maybe? He wasn't sure. She didn't normally make jokes.

Or maybe, she didn't make jokes to him. Maybe.

"Well, I guess I'll see you around."

He couldn't stop thinking about her joke.

"I guess."

See her when?!

"Call me."

She won't.

"I won't. Promise."

He didn't know what he was going to do. But he had to find her.

Find her and yell at her. Find her and scream at her.

Was she moving on?

Moving on and making jokes?

What was Jayden to her?

Why the hell did she leave him?

Did she leave him? Did they ever really break up? Were they ever really together?

He just couldn't do it anymore.
He couldn't do it.
