***ROWAN POV:***
Once we're off the train the carriage ride is pretty awkward. Kellan and James are acting all lovey dovey while Draco and I sit there kind of awkwardly. Draco is friends with Kellan, and he's looking a little bit protective over her. Maybe he likes her?
I shake my head, clearing the thought. If Draco likes Kellan he'd let me know. We are pretty close, after all. Plus Kellan is my friend and I could help him. But something tells me it's not Kellan he likes...
I barely pay attention as Draco and Kellan talk, I just stare out the window, thinking of devising a new plan of hours to study. Mother and father were talking about something big that was going on at Hogwarts, and I'm very afraid it might distract me from getting top grades. My parents would definitely not like that.
We get off of the carriages and start walking towards Hogwarts.
"Bye, Row!" Kellan calls cheerily as she takes James' hand and skips off.
"Bye, Kellan!" I call back as Draco and I walk in silence towards the castle. Someone suddenly shoves into me, sending me flying into Draco.
"Watch where you're going," I snap, glaring at the Gryffindor boy in front of me. It just so happens to be Dalton, the boy I caught watching my Mother nag me.
"Sorry," he mutters, jogging up to his friend Seamus Finnigan. Then he smiles and continues his conversation like our little conversation never happened. For some reason that really bothered me.
"-dumb Gryffindors!" I suddenly realize Draco was on a rant about how dumb Gryffindors are again.
"I know right?" I say, glaring after Dalton. He continues to walk in front of us, his dirty blonde hair looking almost brown in the darkness and his black, red, and gold robes billowing behind him. He laughs at something Seamus says and I turn away from him.
Why are you getting worked up over some dumb, Gryffindor boy, Rowan? Let it go, he said sorry!
But for some strange reason I can't let it go. I kept staring at the boy throughout the whole sorting ceremony as well as dinner. Something about this boy intrigued me, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Rowan? Are you listening to a word I'm saying?"
"Huh?" I ask, turning to Natalie. She rolls her eyes.
"I was asking if maybe this year you could try and convince your parents to come over to my house for Christmas?" I ponder this while stealing another glance at Dalton.
"Well...I usually either go to Draco's or have him come to my house...but I guess I could try to convince them!" I declare, deciding to pretend Dalton doesn't exist. That's how it's been for three years, why is it suddenly different?
"Okay, cool," Natalie says, shoveling some mashed potatoes into her mouth. "By the way, who's that Gryffindor boy you keep looking at?" My eyes widen. Gosh, she really does know me too well.
"Who?" I ask, biting into a bread roll. Natalie scoffs.
"Don't play dumb with me, Rowan Winslow. I saw you looking at him!" I shush her and am about to make an exucuse when Dumbledore calls for our attention. There is a big lump covered by a sheet in the middle of the staff table, and Barty Crouch stands next to it, his hand draped over the sheet. Dumbledore then tells us about the Triwizard Tournament that is going to be held at Hogwarts this year and how we're going to have some guest schools join us. I sneak a glance towards Kellan and Draco at the Slytherin table. Kellan wiggles her eyebrows at me while Draco smirks as if saying "I told you so!". I just roll my eyes and turn back to Dumbledore.
