Chapter 1 - Babysitting

(That's the cabin)

*Melodie P.O.V*

I recently met Bob and Dottie Thompson. My father says that I must work, so I'm going to be babysitting their son, Tony. I've never met him but his parents have told me he is obsessed with vampires, so this should be interesting. I put this on: and left. My father has a little cabin in the woods for me because I refuse to live in his truck. As I arrived I knocked on the door and Mrs. Thompson opens the door and greets me. She calls Tony downstairs to meet me. Before he could make it downstairs Dottie turns to me and says " He needs to be in bed by nine and try to avoid the vampire topic." "Of course" I replied. I turned to see a little boy with round glasses and spiked blond hair walking down the stairs. "You must be Tony. My name is Melodie." I said to the boy as I leaned down to his level. He gave me a small smile and waved then went back up the stairs towards his room. I turned to Dottie. "He isn't settling in very well, he doesn't really like it here. He wishes we would go back to San Diego." she states. "I get it, for most my childhood I moved from my mothers to my fathers place but my mum moved around a lot due to finance problems, my father and I lost contact with her when I was 10 years old. Been living with my father ever since." "Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear that." Dottie said calmly. "It's fine I've had 5 years to get over it." I said as Bob started to run down the stairs telling Dottie they had to leave. "Thank you for babysitting on such short notice," he said " we shouldn't be back too late, make sure he's in be by nine." "Okay" I slightly shouted as they made their way to the car. After they left I looked at the time and went upstairs to ask Tony if he wanted dinner and what he would like to eat. He told me he was hungry and wanted so chicken nuggets. I went back downstairs and made him some dinner, I called him down and we ate. He asked me if I could go upstairs and draw with him, I agreed.

*Slight Time Skip*

After drawing for a bit Tony put on a black cape and started to cut out vampire fangs, I thought it was pretty funny so I ran downstairs and picked up the ketchup. As I ran back up the stairs and walked in his room he offered out fangs to me. I passed him the ketchup and put the fangs under my front lip. We started to play "vampires" and Tony put ketchup all over his mouth and pretended to drink the blood of his stuffed monkey. When all of a sudden we heard a bat squeak outside his window. I neared the window while Tony tried to put the ketchup down on his desk. We heard a thump come from the fireplace and saw a bright flash of light. I motioned to Tony to stay back as I checked it out, I saw a little boy about the same age as Tony. I could tell he was a vampire but my motherly instinct kicked in and I rushed over to him. "Are you okay?" I asked "You're no sister and he is no brother, you're human, which means you're full of blood." "Is that anyway to talk or treat someone trying to help you? I don't think so mister now stop it! Are you okay?" I practically yelled at him. "I don't need help from mortals, when I can fly." he said as he pushed me out of the way and jumped off the balcony, he hovered for a bit and then fell. Tony and I looked at each other and then ran down the stairs to make sure the little vampire was okay. "Are you okay?" I yelled as I ran up to the little vampire. He flinched as my father drove by with his UV lights on. "Do you know where I can get a cow?" He asked us cluelessly. "If you want milk w-" "No, no I mean a cow." "Oh, yeah there's a farm not too far away." Tony said now knowing what the vampire had meant. Tony went and grabbed his little red wagon and asked me if I was to join the two on their quest to the farm. I laughed slightly and agreed. When we arrived the vampire started to hypnotize the cow and then went to his left side and sunk his teeth into the cow, Tony scrunched his nose up in disgust while it didn't bother me at all. I stayed in the barn while Tony waited outside once the vampire was done we looked towards the door and saw a truck coming up to Tony. I screamed as the vampire picked me up and grabbed Tony, he told us to close our eyes. All of a sudden it got quite calm and he told us to open our eyes. I slowly opened them and looked out to the countryside "Enjoying the view?" he asked "Yeah" Tony and I replied. "Thanks dude" "You keep calling me dude, my name is Rudolph." The little vampire replied to Tony. "I'm Tony and this is Melodie. Also dude is slang, like what you call a friend." "A friend?" " Well, we saved each other's lives, didn't we?" " Yes. We did. Friends." Rudolph replied. "Great, let's play." Tony said as he stood up and jumped around with Rudolph as I watched. After sometime Tony said "I think I should get home. Whoa, Rudolph, how do we get down from here?" "We'll fly. Of course" "But I can't fly." "I got you guys up here, didn't I?" "Well I guess so." "Then stay calm, friend. All right, lets fly. As long as I'm holding onto you, your fine. Trust me." Rudolph said as he grabbed mine and Tonys hand. We slowly lifted off the blimp and flew toward Tonys house. "Hey Rudolph can you see the color of the car there?" I asked "Yes, green car man and women inside man talking loudly using lots of hand gestures." "Oh no, Tony your parents are going to kill me. Rudolph please hurry we need to get back before them." Rudolph seemed to fly faster and soon we landed on Tonys balcony."Hurry" I said as Rudolph went to a corner in the ceiling and Tony ran to bed taking off his glasses, I moved a chair next to his bed and grabbed a book, layed it open on my lap while Tony and I pretended to sleep. His parents walked in and noticed us, Dottie came and woke me up "I called you on your phone to see how Tony was doing, there was no answer and I started to panic." she said "But I see you just fell asleep. Thank you for taking care of him." "It was no problem, we had a lot of fun." I started to leave when Tony pretended to wake up. "Mom" he said "can you and dad go out tomorrow, I want Melodie to babysit again." "Well I guess we could if that is okay with Melodie?" Dottie said turning to me. "I would love to" I said calmly smiling at Tony. "Cool" he said laying back down and pretending to sleep once again. As I walked out behind Dottie and Bob I waved to Rudolph, as he waved back I closed the door. Dottie and Bob payed me and I was on my way home when I thought about Tony and Rudolph 'That was fun but befriending a vampire can be really messy for me, oh well what my father doesn't know won't hurt him. This could get interesting.'
