Chapter 2

JESSICA’S POV

Lance and I walked down my driveway, which is unfortunately long, out the gates and up his driveway, which was equally as unfortunately long. We walked in comfortable silence, me picking  flowers and sticking them in my hair and him shaking his head and laughing. When the two of us finally reached his five-car garage, I skipped over to Lance's 599 GTO Ferrari, his baby (I think he likes the thing more than he likes me!), and slid in the passenger seat.

“Jess? What are you doing?” asked Lance. Looking at me with skepticism.

“What are you talking about? You’ve driven me in this car since you got your license.” I replied, very confused. Does he want me to drive today?

“You forgot about Nick!” he reminded me, “He has to come too…”

Oh! Nick, my bff: best freshman friend! Lance’s little brother of 14 years. How could I have forgotten? I've been waiting for this day practically since I started high school!

“Oh yeah!” I laughed, “So what now?”

“We have to take my mom’s car,” he frowned. Poor doll, he probably misses those black leather seats, four-point belts and matching Daytona inserts. Too bad there’s only room for a single passenger.

Just then Nick walked out of the house. Just like Lance, Nick looked very grownup. Sure to be a heart breaker, he was relatively tall, and very handsome; his blonde hair was soft and messy, his gray eyes shimmered. When he spotted me next to his older brother he smiled big and goofily.

“Hey Jess!” he called, “You look very nice today.” He winked at me, always the charmer.

“Hey Nicky!” I smiled, yeah I have creative nicknames for people, “Are you excited for your first day of high school?” Lance went inside after mumbling something about the car keys.

“Yeah are you? Maybe this year you’ll find a boy willing to date you,” he teased. I stuck my tongue out at him, playfully shrugging it off. I wouldn't let anyone know how much that actually stung.

“Wow Nick. Your just cranky because you haven't…” I began but just then Lance came out of the house.

“That he didn’t what?” asked Lance. Nick and I exchanged a look. He shook his head behind Lance, no I wouldn’t tell yet.

“Nothing. Did you get the keys? We are so gonna be late,” I changed the topic; we honestly were going to be late though, classes start in 15 minutes.

The boys agreed quickly and climbed into their mother’s sleek, black Range Rover.

After running multiple red lights, and speeding our way across town we arrived at Canyon Heights.

I love campus; every time I pull up I am amazed by how beautiful it is. It’s huge. The main building is like a castle, high towers and elaborate balconies included. Green grass fills every corner of the grounds, except for our magnificent quad. In the center of the quad there is a stone statue of our mustachioed founder, Henry Gauthem, where my friends and I often hang out. Outside the quad there is a turf football stadium and track, the football field also serves as a soccer field. The Olympic sized pool is located next to the new gymnasium, which is then located next to our practice gym, which is slightly smaller. My favorite spot on campus is in the ring of palm trees behind the football stadium. Whenever I need peace and quiet I know where to go. I love campus.

As soon as Lance parked, Nick and I jumped out. I tossed my large, Kate Spade bag over my shoulder and headed towards the main building with Nick in tow.
