Chapter 9
“These are personal lemon soufflés,” Lance announced to the class as he passed one out to each student.
I watched Madame Rousseau take a bite of hers, “These are delicious!” she sounded doubtful when she said, “Did you really make these?”
Before Lance could reply I said, “They are entirely homemade.” Lance looked slightly relieved and I smiled. Everyone knows that Lance couldn’t lie to save his life.
“Well, they are magnificent,” our teacher continued to compliment James’ cooking, “you both receive thirty points of extra credit.”
The bell signaled the end of class and my classmates proceeded to pack up and leave; I grabbed my backpack and met Lance at the door.
“Yay!” he exclaimed in a high-pitched voice. I jumped to high-five him and we laughed together.
“I think my grade is back to normal now,” I smiled to myself as we walked to social dance.
“That’s great! Just six more to go,” he teased. I slapped his shoulder playfully; he is just such a Realistic Remy.
“Nope only five, I have a good grade in social dance!” that reminded me of something, “Will you be my dance partner?”
He looked confused, “What happened to Xander and modeling and learning new “moves”?” He made little quote signs with him fingers.
I frowned and looked anywhere but directly at him, “I quit modeling,” he looked shocked but didn’t interrupt me, “and Xander makes me feel uncomfortable now. I caught him making out with Victoria.”
Lance scoffed and said, “C’mon its Victoria. She’s kind of a slut…”
I laughed at his bluntness, “I know, I just…I don’t know. It’s not okay with me.” My feelings about Xander lately have been more than a bit confusing; frankly I don’t trust him enough to develop a relationship.
He nodded his understanding, “I’d love to be your partner.” He smiled and grabbed my hand, “so, what are we wearing to the dance?”
“Oh yeah, Lacey and I are going shopping together after school today,” I clapped my hands in excitement. Someone slung an arm around my shoulder and I would’ve jumped if it didn’t weigh so much, “Ouch, get off,” I whined and stopped walking.
Looking up I recognized Robert, “Hey, Robert we were just talking about Lacey!” hinted Lance. Hm, is there something going on here?
“So?” said Robert, faking confusion.
Lance nudged his shoulder with his elbow, “C’mon, the girls are going shopping tonight. Besides the dance is in like two days, right?”
“It is,” I chirped in, “Are you going to ask Lace?”
I felt the arm slide off my shoulder as Robert crossed his arms angrily, “No.”
Lance groaned, “C’mon dude, man up!”
“Why should I ask her, she’ll probably say no anyways.”
Now that I think about it, Lacey and Robert would make an adorable couple. She’s so wild and he’s so protective, maybe they’d rub off on each other. I practically begged when I said, “Yes, yes, yes! You have to ask her! Please, Big Bear?”
