It was supposed to be alright. Everything was supposed to stay just the way it was but he just had to open his mouth. My name is Kaname Ichite, that's in order of first and last. My parents were expecting a boy but got a girl so that's why I'm named Kaname. I've been friends with Kagami Taiga since middle school. We met in America. Neither of us spoke English very well so that's how we got close. The thing was... he didn't know I was a girl. My parents got my principal to have me wear the boy's uniform so that was strike one. My voice wasn't very high, it was more boyish than it needed to be. Strike two. I also love basketball, video games, magazine, fast food, I eat a lot for my size and I hang with mostly guys and my hair is slightly longer with my bangs covering part of my forehead in a boyish look. Strike three. More like every strike possible. So yeah it seems weird that I wouldn't tell him but I didn't want to freak Kagami out. So I moved back to Japan for the rest of middle school. I joined the Teiko middle basketball team. I didn't play on the team officially in games, well not often, but I always played with them freely. The only reason I didn't play in more official games was that they knew I was a girl. I was a good overall player though. When they just played for fun, I teamed usually with Midorima, Kuroko, or Aomine. Aomine was more of an older brother figure to me. Kuroko was a person I could vent to. I could go to him with anything I needed and he was my best friend. Midorima on the other hand..... well let's just say there was more than a 'professional' relationship. Basically, this is what happened:
It was Saturday. The team didn't have a game and it was a day off from practice but that didn't stop me. I was outside on the basketball court, practicing my moves and my throws. I missed a shot and it bounced off of the backboard. I was catching my breath and let the ball roll. I looked up to the sound of the basketball going in the net and I turned to see Midorima. Even in middle school, he was at least 5 inches taller than me. I turned and smiled slightly.
"Hey, Midorima." I greeted with a smile.
He fixed his glasses, "I've told you that you can call me Shintaro." he responded simply.
"I know but I like Midorima. It's original." This caused his cheeks to turn a shade of pink, something I'd never seen before.
"Listen Kana-chan.." he said, using the nickname the team used for me.
"What is it?" I questioned, finally catching my breath and putting my hands into the pockets of my basketball shorts.
"I like you. And not just in the friend way. I like you more than that." he confessed, though his tone was still unchanging.
Now it was my turn to blush and I shook my head gently, "I like you too but.... It's just that... I don't think I'm ready for a relationship." I admitted honestly.
Midorima nodded and turned his back to me, "Then I'll wait until you are. You can find me when you are ready." With that, he left me standing there alone.
Anyways, back to what I was saying. So it's now my first year of high school and I attend Seirin. I reunited with Kagami and Kuroko and yadda yadda yadda. I don't feel like telling the whole reunited and explaining how I know them. Anyways I pulled Kuroko to the side and made him promise not to mention I was a girl. He promised. So now after a few weeks, I start having... feelings for Kagami. Who better else to tell than my best friend, right? So I'm walking down the street with Kuroko and I break it down with him. The conversation went something like:
"I've been feeling strange lately Kuroko," I admitted.
"Strange how?" he asked as he sipped on his soda.
