Voting
A wave of helplessness has surged
through my being and swept aside my clarity.
It has left the debris of my thoughts piled up against my will.
Every opinion and dream and theory unproven,
lies like debris from some great storm.
I have sat and watched the approach
and shook my head as the numbers struck home.
Such power and size cannot be resisted except by the most
prepared and resolute of structures and intention.
I will survive, needs to be in context.
I chose where I am in life now.
To learn all the skills of masterful living, and master
my natural gifts so that I could become more than others thought
I might become. I made choices not all agreed with.
All agree I have done well in life.
I have supported many causes
and voted for many policies that have not eventuated.
Many things have arisen that would not otherwise be, yet some
that needed to occur have been shunned by
those too blind to understand.
I heard the politician pleading loudly
before the international gathering of policy Regents.
You must act on global warming, my nation is in a state of calamity
What did he eat for lunch after his speech
and where did it come from?
Did he vote to reduce his nations pollution
or does the corruption of the powerful extend to all
who would decide the fate of the future and the nature of life.
How many acres of forest has his family planted
or is it all now just oil palm plantation.
Did we ask the traditional owners
of the forests and the rivers what should be done?
Or did the bulldozers move heaven and earth to build tomorrow.
For many there is now, no day after today;
as their bodies rot in the heat.
We all have the right to have a say
in what happens in and out of the world around us.
How many of you have shown interest and made a commitment
to ensuring the rich natural beauty of the world
instead of wasting life with the latest........
You, reading this, get out and vote!
Make your presence felt in this oh too short life.
Make the choices, press the vote button, vote with your feet, or do
whatever is needed to make a difference!
Summon the courage and just do it!
Live a life of intention where every
vote makes a difference, every action is effective.
Think it through, take responsibility, help others to take decisions,
if that’s what’s needed to change the world.
Never waste your vote!
