I have heard of a book, upon the pages
of which, are written the stories and songs and dreams of my life.
Did I catch a glimpse of this when I was born and this is where
my sense of purpose arises from. Can anyone have the sight
to see such words and also comprehend the meaning.
I have held the book of life in my soul
filled hands midst deep meditation when all the world was nought
but star dust and whimsy, and all of existence was laid bare,
before my heart’s eyes and soul’s mind and I saw all
and one for aeons and lives before me.
I turn each page of my book of life,
one painstakingly crafted ethereal page at a brief glimpsed time.
Not for me to jump to the end of the chapter to discover my
fault filled future or seek the cusps upon which a different
path could be walked into a brighter world.
I exist line by line by glorious line
unedited by any hand other than those I have held close
in my own and kissed and held dear and parried and
reached out to share and build and heal the lives
I and we must perforce be embraced.
We all edit our lives and thoughts and hearts
meanwhile moving inexorably through each breath driven moment.
Do we pause to consider what may have been if we made that
other choice and took that other turn instead of erasing
those options and putting full stop to them.
We are an unfolding saga touched by all the stories
of all time ever written by all of the greatest authors of human
endeavour across the long dark centuries of chronicled
thought, word and deed, then only to later find an
addendum of omissions left unedited.
You, reading this, let life turn the page
of your heart song and souls sonnet, lest you insert a clause
that no omnipotent divinity could absolve even in that
moment of last breath when nothing else matters
and you let go of your minds track changes.
Listen to yourself and live by the first thought
and word and let pass that second that would edit the life
choices you make in each and every moment of breathed
time. Exhale the editing and breath deep of each
delicious moment of your one gifted life.
