By the time the tour had ended, many potential buyers stayed behind in order to negotiate the essentials with my father. You know, maintenance, mortgage, crime rates, previous murders... The easy stuff. Nearing the hour of four, I heard the familiar hum of success from my father fill up the hall.
"Ready to hit the road?" he asked while flipping off the lights.

Before I could answer him, I felt my phone vibrate from my pocket, slightly making me jump.
"One sec," I mumbled as I look down at the screen to check my message.

L - up for something in five?
D - of course, bitchesssss

I smiled lightly to myself, excited to receive a request to hang out from my best friends. We hadn't been able to see each other much after graduating from college so having the thought of being able to see the two girls I trusted most was a great thing for me. I quickly texted back a "yes sure" before making eye contact with my dad.

"Actually I'm going to hang out with Lena and Daph, is that okay?"
"Considering it's only four, yeah it's great Cad."
"Thanks, Dad!" I smiled warmly and gave him a quick hug of appreciation right after doing a small dance of happiness.

Finally.

"Wait, do I need to check in with mom too?"
His eyes fell to the floor for a quick moment before they flickered back up to mine.
"No.. She's left for one of her trips this morning, while you were out."
"She didn't want to say goodbye?"
"She did say goodbye."

To everyone but me.

To my surprise, I felt my heart pang with confusion & self-pity. Regardless of my relationship with her, a mother's ignorance towards her only daughter always had the power to affect me poorly.
"She was just in a rush and-"
"Yeah it's okay, I understand... But I'm off now so I'll be home before dinner. Love you."
"Love you more kiddo."

Everything outside seemed to feel better once I was able to breathe an endless amount of fresh summer afternoon air. I guess it hurt that my mother didn't say goodbye before leaving for who knows long but then I again, I guess I didn't care.

L - great! I'll pick you up from your house?
C - actually, I'm already out lol. I can meet you guys somewhere
D - east shopping wing?
L - that's where all the creepy guys hang out after two :(
D - yes and that's where we're meeting up for our hangout today! clear?
C - LOL clear :)

A couple of minutes had passed before Lena decided to respond. She must've been contemplating about coming after all.

D - Lena?!?!?!
L - ugh
L - clear :/
D - excellente chica ;)

Chuckling quietly, I locked my phone and started walking to my car.

"If people see you chuckling like that to yourself, they'll think you're crazy, you know?"
My head snapped up in the direction of the foreign voice with a beating heart only to have it completely put out when I see a young and unfamiliar looking boy stand before me.
"And why is that?"
"Just looks unusual," he purred in a way that made my skin itch. He never took his eyes off of me. "But I'm sure that I'd be able to help you."
"Enlighten me."
"For a fine piece of ass like you, I'm sure I'd be able to kiss all the laughs away."
"You're not making any sense."
"But you know what does make sense?" he paused as if he were going to reveal America's Next Top Model. "Going out on a date with me."

Oh my gosh, that was absolutely horrendous.

"Yeah right," I growled with a high sense of annoyance. "Move over before you get hit with my car."
"Come on baby, don't be like that. You know you want this!"
Rolling my eyes, I started the engine and drive towards the afternoon filled with best friends and endless memories instead of standing around listening to creepy guys who think they have a chance with me.
