We crossed the bridge. It lead to a pastel colored rainforest. The trees were a light green and the sky was a vivid blue. The animals ranged from a soft-hued yellow to bright coral. The lavender birds chirped and made me feel at ease. This place was much more welcoming than the others.
Swiftly, a blur of red flew past my face. I stumbled backwards, tripping over a stick. Great. My butt was sore.
Here we go again with the creepy creatures, I thought. I batted them away with one hand, and used the other to support me as I stood up. For some reason, this took so much energy out of me, I needed to hold something to support me. I clutched the nearest tree, its bark digging into my skin.
The world whirled around me as I landed in a plushy bed with stuffed animals. My eyelids dropped from exhaustion. I was too tired to worry about Kristen. I closed my eyes, longing for some sleep. A dreamy voice cooed, "Goodnight Valerie. Don't let me bite you tonight." Its cackles echoed in my head, as I fell into unconsciousness.
---
A few hours later, I woke up to the all too familiar tinkling sound of bells. Then I opened my eyes. I wish I didn't.
"AHHHH!" I rolled over to the side of the bed, only to fall off. A albino boy with pink skin, nice smile, and a tray with all my favorite foods."Hungry?" The boy asked, in a girlish, light voice. I nodded my head. It was long since I had some strawberry pancakes with whipped cream, blueberries, and mint chocolate chip ice cream. He handed the platter to me on the floor, and I accepted as gracefully as I could. I stood, placing the plate on my bed. I stuffed my face full of food until I couldn't eat one more teaspoon of whipped cream.
"Oh! I'm sooo full!" I groaned. The boy handed me a banana split. It was so tempting, so delicious, just one more bite...
"VALERIE!" Kristen rushed into the room. "We've got to go! These people...they're evil!" Then she noticed the boy next to me.
His warm smile dropped and a cold frown took its place. "What are you doing here? How you get out of your cell?" He seethed.
"No matter. You won't be going anywhere." A sneer appeared on his face. He let out an ear-piercing whistle. Guards came tumbling in and surrounded us.
"Look who's trapped? Oh wait. It's you." The beefy men laughed as the boy let out a cackle.
"If you're so two faced, at least make one of them pretty." I snarled.
More time...more time. I swiveled around the room, looking for anything that could get me out of this place.
"Ahh she has a mouth. All the other prisoners only squeak, scream, and run. Wise, this girl." Silence followed.
"Well laugh already!" The boy boomed.
The men laughed, but it was obviously forced.
"Make it more realistic!" He half-growled, half-whined.
Now the brawny men let out a deep hearty laugh that echoed off the walls.
"You're too loud!" He complained putting his hands on his hips. "Can't anyone do anything right?"
I had some time. Ah-ha! In the corner of the room next to the door stood a gleaming sword, with a pointed tip. While the men talked about the laughing, I mimed my plan out towards her. She nodded.
I held out 3 fingers. As 1 second passed I lowered a finger down. Another second passed and I let another one down. Now the last finger: I pulled it down and we broke through the guard barrier.
I reached for the sword, as a bald man lunged for my feet. I scrambled away and cast the sword in front of me.
"Don't move one step or I-I'll...um...kill you!" I said frantically. I swung the sword in front of me aimlessly.
They advanced, as I backed into a hallway. Kristen had grabbed one of the guard's bows and mocked an arrow at them. Then I ran. I pushed myself to the highest point I could. My legs, pumped with energy, as I sprinted towards a bronze door.
I looked back for a quick second to see Kristen turning the corner. I grabbed the door, pleading for it to open. It was locked.
Suddenly a rattle came from the other side of the door and it swung open. I didn't question my luck and dashed outside into the rainforest. Kristen finally caught up to me and we ran towards the forest, careful not to touch any trees.
