I gasped in shock and amazement as I saw a girl with golden hair, creamy skin, coral shell headdress, emerald eyes, and an azure pants.
She was the mermaid tattoo on my back. Well she was - with legs.
"Hi, I'm Gigi Heartborne and I'm your special 'power'." She said with her hands in bunny ears quotes.
"But-What-How-Huh?" I sputtered, confused as hell.
"Let me explain." Gigi said walking over. "But first let's fix that little foot of yours." She waved her hand lazily, and a jet of green light shot out of her hand, into my foot. I delicately placed my foot on the wet floor. There no pain, no collapsing, or anything. I was healed! I threw my arms in happiness around her neck.
She awkwardly patted my back then pulled away from me. "So basically you can summon me in your times of need. Like say you were in a- I don't know - maybe a locked corridor or something and a key was on the other side of the door, I would open it for you. I can do everything a humdrower can. My magical ability is healing. I can heal most wounds unless it's serious like beheading or something like that."
She looked at me with intense curiosity. "Any questions?"
"Yeah. How did you get um...like this-" I waved my hand over her body, emphasizing her legs. "I mean, aren't mermaids supposed to have tails?"
Gigi giggled. "That's true, but since I'm not actually a full breed of mermaid, I have an on and off tail, which I can con control the transformation of."
"So what breed are you?" Kristen trilled. I completely forgot about Kristen for a while.
Gigi let out a silvery chuckle. I'm half mermaid, one-sixth humdrower, one sixth human-"
"Wait... you're part human?" I questioned, inquisitively.
"Yes." She scowled. "Do you have anything against humans?"
"No." I said slowly.
"Good." A cheery beam reappeared on her face. "Now... where was I? Ah yes- I'm also one-sixth- ah I probably shouldn't tell you any more because-"
"You were perfectly fine telling us about your mermaid and human ancestry. Why not the rest?" I crossed my arms obstinately.
"This is embarrassing!" She stuck her tongue out at me. "I'm not telling you the rest, so don't try to weasel it out of me!"
"ENOUGH!" Kristen vociferated. Gigi and I jumped in surprise. Kristen took a few deep breaths. "Gigi tell us your ancestry. Valerie and I promise not to laugh and act like 5 year olds- right?" Kristen gave me an burning hot stare that could melt a huge block of ice in a second.
"Um...sure. I promise I won't laugh." I said in an unconvincing tone.
Gigi looked vigilantly at me, as if she was doubting me. Can't blame her because I was laughing so hard inside, right there and then.
She gave in and whispered in my ear. "I'm one-sixth troll."
I snorted like a pig. "Are you kidding me?" Her cheeks turned pink. Guess she wasn't kidding."VALERIE!" Kristen snapped, angrily.
"Wha-hut?" I said in my sassy accent.
"You promised you wouldn't laugh about Gigi's ancestry."
"Some promises are meant to be broken." I retorted snarkily.
At least that's what I wanted to say. Instead I did what meek little me would do. Eat up the truth.
"Sorry." I congregated all the self control I had in my body to keep a straight face, while looking at Gigi.
"Whatever. Let's get a move-on guys. We need to look for the golden cup of divinity." Kristen instructed.
She's so bipolar sometimes. I hate that.
"Where could it be?" Kristen scrambled around the gardens frantically. "We have no lead-no start-nothing!"
Wait a minute. Gigi said something about a "first task".
"GIGI!" I shrieked.
"AHHH!" One second she was standing up, the next one, she was in the bushes. She glared at me and picked a twig out of her (now) mousy hair.
"What?" She grunted.
"You said something about a 'first task'," I pointed out. "What's that all about?"
She scowled at me. then picked herself up. "Oh yeah. That. So in the inscription on the platform, in the second stanza, you felt pride and completed the first task. The next one is to look in a place you wouldn't have thought to look. Then you'll find the golden cup of divinity."
Where's that last place I would look? I scanned the area. I would look in the cave first, then the gardens, and after that I would break open the platform and look inside. Now what am I missing? I racked my brain for anything I might have missed.
Caves: check, garden: check, lily: ch- wait. That's it! It's in the potted lily. I raced towards the lily. The flower was pretty big considering it was a flower. It stood at 2 feet and arched over the soil like an umbrella. I started to run my fingers through the soil, when Kristen and Gigi came over.
Gigi started, "We need to find it! What are you-"
I cut her off. "No time for questions. I'm looking for the cup in here. Now help me already!"
We shuffled through the plant until we found it. I picked it up. It was about 6 inches tall. In fact, it looked more like a goblet than a cup. There was some silvery liquid in it, so I assumed that I should drink it.
I took a sip and the world started spinning. There was a blinding flash of light and then there stood my father.
A myriad of feelings overpowered me as I saw my dad. He stood regally, his brown hair lusciously cascading in waves ending at his neck. His cocoa eyes gleamed with happiness. Or so I thought.
I ran towards him and hugged him.
"Dad I missed you so much." I sobbed into his arms.
He pushed me away and grimaced.
"If I said the same then I'd be lying." I looked at him with shock.
"What do you mean?" I stuttered.
He smirked. "Honey, you just let the most evil person in the world come back to life."
