Neither Ryder nor I was saying anything as he drove us back to the apartment.
I was glaring out the window when he spoke, “So… are you going to tell me who that was? Or do I have to guess?”
I turned my head towards him and noticed that his body language was normal; he was even wearing a small smirk on his face. Though if you looked closer you could see his clenched hands on the steering wheel, and his smirk wasn’t his usual playful one.
I turned my head back towards the window. “He’s nobody.” I mumbled and I heard him chuckle darkly. “Yeah, because a nobody would act like he did, when they saw you.” He said sarcastically, “Besides, if he didn’t give it away that you two have history, his girl sure did when she looked at you as if she could kill you.”
I sighed and replayed what happened five minutes ago in the shop, in my head.
“Oh… hey Jackson.” I had said as a sinking feeling filled my stomach when I spotted Veronica clinging to his right arm.
She snarled at me as Jackson said, “Long time no see! How’ve you been?”
My eyes left Veronica’s and met Jackson’s nervously, “Oh, um, good. And you?”
He shrugged, “Same ol’, same ol’. Coach has got us doing practices until late now since the championship is coming up.”
I smiled softly, “Not like you can’t handle them, Jack; you can run circles around everyone on that football team.”
He chuckled, his eyes shining bright, “Nah, I’d just show off for you when you’d come and watch me.”
Butterflies filled my stomach as he gazed at me with intensity, until Ryder’s fake cough echoed through the night.
Jackson coughed awkwardly into his hand and said, “Uh, I’ll see you later, C.” He nodded at Ryder politely and Ryder just smirked.
As they walked through the door, Veronica’s shoulder harshly ran into mine and she shot me an ultra-sweet smile. Which, to Veronica, meant I’d pay for that little chat exchanged between her boyfriend and me, later.
“Just let it go, Ryder.” I finally said and I heard him mutter something under his breath before silence filled the car.
When we pulled into the driveway, Ryder turned the car off, yanked his keys out of the transmission, and slammed the door behind him. Well someone’s a grumpy puss. I thought before sighing and opening the car door, following him inside.
“Pretty Girl! How you doin’?” Preston asked, never taking his eyes off the zombie killing game, him and Zach was playing.
“Pretty good, what about you, how was class, College Boy?” I asked as I set down and watched them play. I giggled softly when they would dunk and mutter curse words, totally getting into the game.
“Amazing, I got this hot chick’s phone number and I heard she gives the best head.-“
“Preston! TMI!”
He chuckled before his eyes suddenly widened and Zach jumped up.
“Yes! What now, bitch?! I just beat you and your high score!” He said as he stood, smirking cockily down at Preston.
Preston rolled his eyes, “You got lucky. I’ll beat that by tomorrow!”
Zach reached in his pocket and yanked out three tens before slamming them down on the living room table, “You want to put money on that?” He asked with an evil glint in his eyes.
