Mrs. Linda had taken us all back to the coffee shop, and Preston, Noah, Pagan, Alex, Zach, and I was all sitting at a booth watching as she wrapped Ryder's hand with gauze at a table across from us.
"You really did a number on your hand, Trouble. Tsk, Tsk, you seem to always be getting yourself in sticky situations." Mrs. Linda muttered and Ryder looked at her questionably.
"What?" She asked, looking up at him, "Don't think I don't know who you are, the famous rock star who's suspended from violence."
The boys all snorted when Ryder's face grew pink. I found it quite amusing myself that a Rock Star who's probably seen sights that could never be unseen, would blush from the words of an aged woman.
"He deserved it." Ryder murmured, clenching his jaw.
Mrs. Linda wrapped Ryder's hand one good, last time before she patted it roughly and stood up, "That's what they all say, dear. You need to grow up and not let your anger and fame get to your head. Money can't buy everything."
Everyone glanced at me when she threw a pointed look my way, and crimson stained my cheeks angrily.
She pushed her chair in before grabbing Ryder's and pulling it up to our booth, "Now you sit, and I'll go get my Squirt and her friends something to drink."
Ryder sat down and I stuttered, "Oh, M-Mrs. Linda, you don't have to do that."
She waved her hand, "What did I say child?"
Everyone chuckled as I nodded and she went towards the back of the shop.
"I think I'm in love." Zach sighed, putting the harmonica in his mouth before whistling a sweet tune.
Alex scrunched his nose up, "Dude, you seriously brought that thing with you?"
Zach stopped playing and looked at all of our disgusted faces, "What? It was a souvenir."
We each shook our hands in wonder and Pagan turned to me, "That was really sweet that your mom came and bailed us out of jail."
Noah glanced at me and both of our expressions probably read the same. Oh shit.
"Oh, uh, s-she's not my mom." I coughed and Pagan's eyebrows drew together.
"Then why did she-?"
"Here you go, lovelies. Hot chocolate for everyone."
Pagan's eyes lit up at the sound of Mrs. Linda's voice and her question was long forgotten. The old woman had saved me twice tonight.
We all sipped our hot chocolate and talked, telling stories about pointless things but every one of us finding it comforting.
"So," Mrs. Linda started, taking a sip of her drink while eyeing Ryder, "I've been thinking... why don't you work here?"
Alex spewed his drink everywhere and we all yelped before grabbing napkins and pushing them his way with glares.
"Sorry." He smiled bashfully, cleaning up his mess and Ryder turned back to Mrs. Linda.
"I'm sorry, but what did you say?"
