~Pete's POV~
"P-Pete," I hear Ryan say.
His voice is shaky and I can tell he's been crying. I can also hear pounding in the distance.
"Ryan? What's going on? Is she doing it again?" I ask.
"Y-Yes," he answers quietly. "I-I don't know what to do."
"Ry, just stay in your room with your door locked and I'll be there in five minutes," I say. "Pack some clothes."
"A-Alright," he replies.
I hang up and jump up from my bed. I ran out the door and got into my car to go and save my best friend. His mom is very abusive towards him and it gets worse when she drinks. He's not safe there and everyone knows it. I always go and pick him up because I care about him and he needs to be safe. He's my best friend and I'm always going to be there for him.
I pull out of my driveway faster than ever, screeching the tires and leaving marks on the pavement. I speed down the road to get to Ryan's house. Once I finally get there, I park down the road to avoid his mother seeing my car. I run down the block and stop when I get to his house. I crouch down so I'm not visible through the widows and then walk along side the house until I see Ryan's window.
"Ryan!" I whisper/shout.
His head appears and he gives me a small smile. He throws his bag down and I catch it. I throw it over my shoulder and then turn my head to see that Ryan is slowly crawling out of his window. His room is on the second level of his house, but there's another section of roofing outside his room, so he can easily crawl on that. He finally steps out and makes his way down the roof as slow and quietly as possible. Once he's finally at the end, he jumps off, and it's a good ten foot drop, and lands on his feet perfectly.
"Lets go," I say as I take his hand in mine and start running.
We finally get to my vehicle and then I finally get a good look at Ryan's face and body. His face is full of a few good new cuts, his arms are bruised, and there's a piece of glass stuck in his hand.
"Ry, what'd she do to you this time?" I asked.
"S-She barged into my room and starting hitting me. She didn't even say why, she just did it. She slapped my face over and over and then started throwing things at me and hitting my arms. She threw her beer bottle at me and I tried to defend myself with my hand, but the bottle hit the wall first and the glass ricocheted and got stuck in my hand," Ryan explained.
"Oh my god," I said.
I put his bag down and hugged him. He started to loudly sob into my sweatshirt, so I just held him tighter. Ryan is my best friend and I will never leave him.
