Chapter 4

Reilly's (POV)

When the bell to end fourth period rang everyone jumped out of their seats. I grabbed my binder and headed out the door. When I reached my locker I shoved my binder in it and slammed it shut. I walked down the hallway to the lunch room and waited in line. About thirty people were in front of me. This was gonna be a long wait. As the line got closer and closer I finally got close enough to grab my tray. I walked past the bagels and went straight to the mashed potatos and gravy. The lunch lady took a scoop out of the big container half full of it and put it on my tray. The mashed potatos were a little runny today. Usually when things don't taste good it's because the lunch lady's in a bad mood. I moved on to the chicken nuggets. This lunch lady must have been in a really good mood because when I took a bite of the chicken nugget to see how it tasted it was delicious. I moved on and grabbed a mini carton of chocolate milk. When I finally got to the end, I paid and scanned the tables for Mira. Finding her wasn't too hard because she was in our usual spot. When I sat down I inhaled my chicken nuggets, chugged down my milk, and left the rest alone. I really didn't feel like trying the runny potatos. Mira started talking about her costume. She was going to be an 80s chick. We may be seventeen but we still love dressing up.

When Mira elbowed me I assumed I got lost in my thoughts again, until she pointed to something. I looked the direction she was pointing and saw the same boy from earlier staring at me. When he noticed me looking he blushed and turned away. This just got really akward. What did he want from me? Why did he keep staring at me? All these questions kept running through my mind.

"What's his name anyways?"

"Umm I believe it's Austin."

Austin's (POV)

This couldn't be happening. We just moved to a safer place. I didn't need another person to put in danger, especially her. She could probably help me fight, but I wasn't ready to take that risk. I didn't want anything to happen to her. I'm supposed to protect her, after all she is my mate.

I couldn't help staring at her, but I had to know what she looked like. She had brown curly hair, bright blue eyes, and she looked beautiful. Every time I looked at her I caught myself staring. She wasn't like any of the other girls. Maybe I just thought of her that way because she was my mate. Every time she was near me I just wanted to pull her closer to me, but I couldn't tell her she was my mate, because she obviously was human. When the shock of electricity went off between us she looked bewildered, and she didn't know what had happened. I would have to fight the urge to be near her for now. I was dying to know her name though. But for now I would have to wait.

"You need to tell her." My best friend Jake reminded me. "

"I know It's just I don't want to put another person in danger."

"If you're worried about protecting us, don't be. We can handle ourselves," he replied.

"Ok I'll find a way to tell her."

As soon as the lunch bell rang, everyone started to groan and slowly got up. I got up too and threw my garbage away. I checked my schedule and started to head towards fifth period, art.

Jake's (POV)

I had a feeling Austin wasn't going to tell her, but I didn't want to keep pressing on the matter. He could be so stubborn. He thinks that if anything happens to the pack it's his fault. I could tell he's trying to stay away from her to keep her from danger, but if it was my mate I'd be protecting her, while being with her.

When the bell rang I found my self in science sitting right across from Austin's mate. I overheard her and her friend talking about something.

"I don't know what it was one second it was there and the next it was gone. It felt like a shock of electricity," she said.

I could tell why Austin was holding back on telling her. If she was a werewolf she would know what that meant. I saw the look of confusion in her friend's face and I turned away. Neither of them were werewolves. I could tell that much.

When the teacher Mr. Haffner returned to the classroom he pulled out a paper bag.

" Ok class I'm going to choose a piece of paper out of this bag and it will decide who your partner for the rest of the quarter is. You will be doing multiple labs with this partner, but today you're going to dissect a frog!" He said with excitement. " The 1st group is Hailey and Connor, 2nd is Jake and Reilly, Third is..."

As soon as Mr. Haffner said My partners name I looked up to see Austin's mate getting up. So that's what her name was. Reilly. She looked to see where I was at and when she saw me, she sat down. I was already sitting right by her, so she didn't need to move too much. All she had to do was scoot her chair in a little further. When we finished introducing ourselves we began to dissect the frog.
