Reilly's (POV)

My mind was going crazy again. How could I possibly be his mate? I'm a human and he's a werewolf.

As if he read my mind, he said, "Its unusual for a human and a werewolf to be Mates but it does happen.

"How do you know we're mates?" I asked.

"The electricity between us lets us know and I could tell as soon as I looked you in the eyes." He replied.

"Every day I feel like I need to be with you, but I try to avoid that feeling by avoiding you." He admitted.

A pain started creeping though my body. He tried to avoid me? I felt like I was gonna cry, but I held back the tears. Why was I feeling this way?

"But you have to promise to keep this a secret!" he exclaimed.

"I promise. Now can I go home?" I questioned.

"Fine." he said hesitantly.

He led me to the door and I was soon welcomed by the cold. Without saying goodbye I quickly walked off. His secret would be so much easier than the one I was already hiding. As hard as I tried not to, I began to think about when I was eight.

Flashback

"Daddy can you please slow down? I'm scared."

"Shut up Elaina!" He said loudly.

I cringed.

"Daddy please!"

"Fine. You want me to slow down, I'll slow down." he said in an annoyed voice.

Phew. He was going to slow down. A relieved look slowly turned up on my pale face. That look quickly turned to worry, when I felt the speed pick up.

75. That was how fast he was going.

"Daddy please!" Tears started streaming down my face.

I quickly glanced at my mother and saw her concerned look. I could tell she was trying to hold back the tears.

"Dad stop!" my caring brother said boldly.

80.85.90.95...

"Daddy!!"

96.97.98.99.

We rounded the corner. A car came flying down the road. (Definitely not as fast as we were going.) With one quick jerk to the right, we missed the car, but not the big tree.

Bam!

The glass on my moms window shattered. I let out a loud scream, the pain in my head and back igniting, and I heard my brothers faint tears. I looked over to the passenger seat, and saw my mom laying there motionless.

"Mommy!!!" I screamed.

The tears kept running down my face, more coming each time. Her perfect tan skin started to turn pale. She had specks of blood from the glass on her face and her hand was completely covered with it. I quickly glanced at my father and saw him staring at me.

"Look what you did." He glared at me.

I began bursting out in tears and my mind was screaming. My stomach ached, and the pain was excruciating. I grimaced and turned my gaze back towards my mom. The pain was so much, I almost couldn't bare it. I began drifting, drifting into the darkness, wanting more than anything, for it to take me away.

Sirens. I could hear them. Something was holding me back and wasn't letting me go. I should be dead by now. The darkness was taking me away, yet something was keeping me here.

The sirens kept getting closer and closer, and the ambulance, police, and firetruck finally arrived. A man pushed a stretcher over to our car and checked to see how many passengers. He got my Mother out from the drivers side after my father slipped out of the car and put her on the stretcher, then managed to get my brother out. They must not have seen me at first because my body still lay in a corner right next to the Dented door.

"Where's my sister?" My brother asked worriedly.

A police officer checked in the car once more, and saw my tiny body wrapped in a ball in the corner. They made sure to carefully take me out, and put me on a stretcher. They rolled my mom and I into the ambulance, and I watched the scene before me.

The police officers were checking to see if my dad was intoxicated, while driving at the same time, and sure enough found that he was. They were about to let him off with a big ticket, but quickly realized he was speeding, and had kids in the car. They slapped the handcuffs on him and sentenced him to five years in prison. He glared at me and slid into the police car.

"Daddy!" I cried out.

Before I knew it the doors to the ambulance were shut and we were heading to the hospital.

When we made it to the hospital, two men quickly rolled us in, pushing through the doors, and weaving down the hallway, finally getting us a room. My brother following close behind. The doctor quickly attached some tubes to my mom, checked her pulse, and exited out the room. The screen on the monitor kept beeping slowly and I was starting to worry for my mother. A nurse came in and did X-Rays on me and concluded that nothing was broken. They realized I had a small concussion and told me how to treat it and care for my head. She did the same with my brother and found he had a broken arm. She asked him what color of cast he wanted and soon entered the room with a red cast and wrapped it around his right arm. My attention turned back to my mother, when I heard the beeping slow down even more. The Doctor rushed back in, and tried to adjust the tubes and get her heartbeat to normal, when I heard it.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

The screen went steady and I knew what had happened, my mom had died. The tears started flooding down my face. It felt like I could provide the water, for all the oceans in the world. The part that pained me the most, was that I didn't even get to tell her I love her. My brother, who was sitting right beside me, was crying too. Then I realized something.

"It's all my fault!" I whispered.

My brother looked over at me. "No it's not." He said as convincingly as he could.

It's all my fault! I screamed at myself. I'm so stupid, I pushed dad to speed up and now my mom is dead, and it all MY fault.

My rage quickly turned back to tears and I let them fall.A police officer looked at us in pity and gestured us to follow him. He led us to a police car and we left the hospital.

"You forgot to charge my dad on something." my brother surprisingly spoke up.

"And what might might that be?" the police officer asked.

"Abuse. Child Abuse." He added.

"Where? Physically or mentally?" he questioned.

"Physically." He nodded at me. "It's okay Elaina, show him."

I slightly lifted my shirt, revealing the massive bruise on my stomach.

The policeman looked at me in shock and spoke into a speaker.

"Add five more years to Mr. Warrens time in jail."

"What for?" was the reply on the other end.

"Child Abuse." he responded, and the other end went quiet.

The police officer looked at me sympathetically, and then turned his gaze back towards the road.

"We're here." he announced.

I looked over at my brother and we both knew at that point, we were about to be up for adoption.
