Evelyn’s POV
Rudy’s called me so many times but I ignored the calls. I don’t think I was exactly ready to deal with him. It was already Saturday, and I was already getting ready. Jake was supposed to come by around 5, he was going to take me to the party. It was a 2 hour drive so we both got ready comfortably. I wore a dress that came a little above my knees. It was a dark blue dress that was a tight but had a couple layers on the top of the skirt part of my dress. I put some quick black flats on that had a small little black rose on the top of each one. My hair was put up in a high pony tail. I added hoop earrings and then I was done.
The door bell rang and I ran to it. Jake stood there with a green shirt and some dark black slim jeans. I smiled at him and he held out a black rose from the back. “Here you go.” He smiled at me. I grabbed the flower excitedly and smiled at him.
“You’re so sweet!” I hugged him tightly with the flower in my hand. He smiled when I let go and then asked me if I was ready. I put my flower into the kitchen and returned to him.
“Lets go then?” Jake questioned. I smiled and nodded. I locked the door and grabbed my keys in my small purse. Jake took me to the car and opened my door for me like the gentle men he was.
When we were seated and ready to go I began the conversation with an odd question, but that was okay because he never minded what I asked him.
“Have you ever had a girlfriend?” was my awkward question.
Jake smiled but kept his eyes on the road, “Yes. I have. Once, her name was Emily. I say was because she changed it to Tori. Odd don’t you think?” he asked me.
“Very, in my opinion Emily is a prettier name.”
“Nope, she said that she needed a sexier name so she chose Tori.” Jake said. “This was after she left.” He said.
“What do you mean?” I asked very catiously because I didn’t know how much he actually wanted to tell me.
“Well, she changed. Before she changed her name she just became really different. Soon after she changed her name and then left. I didn’t see her for three whole months. Then I got a text out of nowhere from her saying that we were over. A month later I saw her on the news. She had died in a car accident from drinking and driving.” Jake said this and I felt really bad. I didn’t know that is past was so gruesome, maybe that’s why he looks the way he looks.
He chuckled and then looked at me for a second, “You’re right. I wasn’t always an emo looking kid.” Jake smiled.
“Um….” How did he do that, know what was on my mind?
“I know you to well Evelyn.” Jake smiled. “How about you, any other boyfriends other than the one who shall not be named?” I laughed at Jake and then sighed.
“Nope. Guys were always too cowardly to ask me. They would tell my friends that they liked me though. And my friend would tell me. But that’s as far as it ever went.” I shrugged; my past was nothing like his.
“I see why they would be so intimidated.” Jake smiled. I blushed a little and then turned on the radio. Time always flew so quickly when I was with Jake.
We got to the party and Jake found a parking space as close as possible. I was ready to forget everything and try to have fun. “Are you sure you want to go?” Jake asked me. Was he serious, we didn’t drive all this way for him to drive me back! Jake had been questioning my judgment ever since I asked him to go to the party with me. But he agreed with me.
