Rudy’s POV

I had a bad feeling about leaving Evelyn alone at UCLA, but who was I to judge. After all she was seventeen now, I was sure that she could take care of herself. The airport wasn’t as bad as people said it was going to be. My only problem was how much I missed Evelyn. Dang, that girl got me bad. Honestly I have never felt this way about another girl. I know it sounds cliché, in fact I would never tell Evelyn that I felt that way, but it was the hard truth.

Once I was out of the airport in France I was met with the sounds of people speaking French all around me. My head started hurting from there fast dialect. I walked towards the street and tried pulling over a taxi. Finally one of the taxi drivers stopped and rolled down the window.

“Où aller?” The guy asked me.

“Umm…I don’t speak French…but…I have a book…one second.” I told the guy awkwardly. I rummaged through one of my bags and pulled out my English to French book.

“Pouvez-vous….uh….. me conduire…..ummm…. à l'appartement Redwood…..uh…. s'il vous…mmm…. plaît?” I flipped through the pages of the book to put together my sentence.

“Sure hop in.” The guy smiled amusingly at me. He had a heavy French accent, but he could speak English! Wow, I laughed at my stupidity as I stuffed my luggage into the back and sat down.

“So, it’s your first day here eh?” the taxi driver asked.

          “Pretty much.” I told him.

“Well, rule number one…most taxi drivers now English.” His accent made me want to burst out laughing but I held it in.

“I will be sure to remember that.” I replied politely.

The streets of Paris, were the same as America. Nothing different except for maybe the way the people dressed. Other than that there wasn’t much of a dramatic change. We passed by the Eifel Towers and I was amazed at how small it was to comparison to how big I thought it was going to be. Or maybe I was a little farther away from it and that’s why I thought it was so small. Either way I was really excited to see what it was like up close. I didn’t get the chance to though, because the farther we got from the tower the closer I felt we were to the apartment buildings.

The car came to a slow stop in front of a small building complex. I opened the door and pulled out my luggage. After paying and thanking the taxi driver, he drove off and I picked up my bags. What I thought was small, turned out really big once I made it past the first building. The apartments were in pairs and on each side. If you went straight you were met with a couple of steps that lead to an exact replica of what you see but on the other side. I looked for apartment #14. When I found it I pulled out my key (that’s how awesome UCLA is they gave me the key beforehand too) and propped open the door. I found the light switch and turned it on not sure if it was actually going to work since this was my first day. To my surprise the lights flickered open, and inside I saw an already furnished living room. It was small, but perfect for someone who was living alone. To the other side of the door was a small kitchen and dining room linked together. There was even an upstairs that I hadn’t noticed before, even though it was right in front of the door!, and I pulled my luggage up with me. I opened the lights to the room that the stairs led me to. It was also furnished with a small bed and drawer. There was a walk in closet to one side and a huge balcony on the wall adjacent to it. A small desk was set perpendicular to my bed. I sighed and put down my bags. Only one thing was missing, Evelyn.
