" I used to dream of escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to see how extraordinary it was. Likewise, I never imagined home would be something that I would miss." - Ransom Riggs.
Two days had passed and I found myself lying in bed. Today was my nineteenth birthday and the 5th that I would celebrate without my parents. Memories of time spent in our home filled my mind; the laughter and happiness, not a single bad memory to think of. I sighed and turned, burying my face into my pillow. Before I knew it, my room door burst open and Mason and Noah rushed in, jumping on to my bed. "Mia! C'mon you need to get up it's your birthday! We made you a cake!" Mason screamed, his golden locks bouncing up and down with all of his excitement. Noah sat down next to me and looked at me, while it seemed thoughts of my birthday quickly left Masons mind and now he was intent on jumping as high as he possibly could. "Mia are you okay? You look so sad, maybe I should bring Marley to cheer you up!", Noah said, concern etched in his voice as he was about to get up. "Oh no Noah I'm okay really! Come here, both of you let me squish you!" Grabbing them both, I tucked them under each arm, licking at their ears and necks. Squealing beneath me, their laughter instantly cheered me up. "Let go Li! Eeeeeeew!" Mason cried. Letting them go, I smiled. "C'mon let's go grab the fluff ball and eat some cake!". They jumped off the bed and hurried down stairs.
The conversation I had with my aunt two nights ago seemed like it had occurred weeks prior. In that time, I had packed some of our clothes, favourite belongings and of course my trusty bunny slippers. I was starting to quite like the idea of not having to wait tables any longer or having to work 2 or 3 jobs trying to help Aunty with groceries or things that we may have needed.
I was playing around with the idea of going shopping, the Moon Goddess knew I could do with some more feminine clothing. For most of my teenage years my wardrobe consisted of leggings, jeans, tanks, hoodies and converse. That was about to change, I was going to make a complete fresh start, new clothes and a new extraordinary Mia. Lookout world! Mia has a new groove! Have I ever really had a groove, I thought to myself? I was giggling like a small child that had tasted ice cream for the first time and I couldn't hide my excitement. "Ana we're going shopping today!". I was going to splurge a bit; I would definitely have to find a dress to match those killer heels I had bought. What occasion I would need it for, I had no idea.
As I made my way down to the kitchen, the boys had already attacked my cake before I had even seen it. Marley ran up to me, icing coated his nose and mouth. I picked him up, rubbing his soft fur as he tried to lick up his leftovers. My aunt was wiping down the table, clearly the boys had made a mess. "Aunty, I'm going to go into town. I need to get myself and the twins a few things. Would you mind watching them for a while?". She could say no, but I knew she would never. She loved those two like they were her own. I never once thought how she would feel being alone now? As I was about to head back up the stairs I turned and asked her, "Would you ever think about moving down to Forrest Falls? I feel like I'm deserting you after all you have done for me, all you have done for us", I said looking between her and the boys. She looked up from her cleaning and smiled at me, I would miss that smile of hers. "Oh Mia, I will miss having you all around. This is my home; it may not be the biggest house in the fanciest area but this is all I've known. I do promise to come visit you though". I nodded my head at her, at least I had asked. I would never have forgiven myself if I didn't try.
Once I had dressed and told the boys to behave, I grabbed my keys to my trusty old Jeep Wrangler. It was a gift for my seventeenth birthday from my aunt. It was made in the 90s, midnight blue and I loved it unconditionally. It never failed me, getting me from A to B without fail. That reminded me, I would have to have a mechanic have a look at it before we left. The drive to Forrest Falls was a good few hours and I don't plan on getting stuck and then abducted by some crazy person. I would make a very bad slave I thought to myself. "Please Mia, we'd rip the poor soul to pieces!" Anna said. I cringed at the thought, the boys would only shift on their 7th birthday and hadn't been exposed to our full werewolf strength just yet.
