*****************************Eva's POV
"You were amazing, Eva. Did I succeed your expectations of your first time?" Colin asked.
"That couldn't have gone better. And...thank you."
"For what?" He furrowed his eyebrows.
"For making me feel special and for not freaking out when I told you that you would be my first."
"Of course. You were focusing on your future, no time for a partner," he said, understanding.
I began to wonder about him. He was an older man. Probably in his early 50s...And I felt comfortable with him. But if he's this old, he must have had a previous partner.
"Mr. Firth, have you ever been married?" I asked, out of the blue.
I looked at him, looking at the ceiling. It took him a second to answer.
"Y-Yes. Yes I have."
I kept looking at him, hoping for an explanation. I could tell that he was searching his brain for something to say. "Twenty years ago, I was married to the love of my life. Her name was Livia," he paused.
I suddenly realized that he said her name was Livia. "She was an environmentalist and stood up for what she believed in. She even started environmental projects. I loved her very much, and I still do," he paused again. "About five years ago, she was involved in a tragic car accident. It was a drunk driver." I noticed his eyes were glazed over. He spilled his guts to me. A nineteen year old girl that he just had sex with. He must trust me a lot to tell me this. "Oh, Colin, I am so sorry," I felt for him, I really did. And it was only five years ago. "It's not your fault." "Do you still think about her?" "Every day," He said, holding back tears. I felt myself reaching my arms out and hugging him.
"The world is an awful place. The only thing worth living for is the people you surround yourself with," he stated. I nodded at his true statement.
"When did you start working at the university?"
"Seven years ago. Before that I was a lawyer in London."
"Do you like the university?" I asked.
"Very much. Law and teaching are my two passions and they're the only things that keep me living," he smiled.
"There are a lot of things in this world to appreciate, Colin. I'm sure Livia instilled that in you, since she was trying to make the world better."
"You are the first person to listen and actually understand, thank you," he said.
"Of course, you can tell me anything," I smiled. I noticed that he didn't smile with his lips, but with his eyes.
"What kind of environmental stuff did she do?" I wondered.
"Why do you ask?" He furrowed his eyebrows.
"Because I want to know all about you. You intrigue me, Colin Firth."
He smiled and we stared at each other for a bit before he remembered my question.
"Uh, Livia, she traveled the world encouraging people to wear green clothes."
"Green clothes, what?" I was sincerely confused.
"I mean, environmentally protective clothes. She worked with clothing brands to make sustainable clothing."
"That's amazing. I'm sure you're proud of her," I said.
"Yes, very much so. I have accepted her death but she will always be in my heart."
I studied him. His wavy, light brown hair, his beautiful hazel eyes. I wanted to stay here forever.
