Typical Human Behavior 101

Chapter 3

Two teenagers. What could go wrong?

Around the same time Maka and Patty go on their adventure.

As they saw Patty and Maka head towards the exit of the school, Liz and Tsubaki began their assignment. They had agreed to search the inside of the school. But honestly, where were they to start? Black Star and Soul could be anywhere.

"I think we should search Stein's classroom, first." Liz said, "We might as well start somewhere." To this, Tsubaki just nodded in agreement and the two headed in that direction.

The two walked in silence over to the classroom. They both wanted to start a conversation about something, anything really.
That's when Liz took the opportunity.

"So Tsubaki, why did you choose Black Star to be your partner?" She asked, they had just reached the classroom so Liz opened the door.

"Well on the day when I came to the academy, Black Star was giving some big speech. Everyone ignored him but I just clapped. I enjoyed the confidence he had. He didn't even care that no one was listening. After a while he jumped down and thanked me for watching him. So, I decided to stick with him as his partner and weapon. Since then we've been together the whole time." Tsubaki said, with a smile.

"But, why are you with him? I've heard how, but I want to know your reasoning for staying with him." Liz replied. Tsubaki glanced over, Liz was currently looking in every cabinet and under every desk for the two kids.

"Hmm...when I talked to Maka about this she said I was the polar opposite of him, so we made the perfect match. But I think I'm with him because no one else can or wants to be. It's exactly like how no one can stand Excalibur except for King Arthur. Just like him, I have gotten so used to his stupid antics that they never bother me anymore." She said. "Also, he has such a heart that no one else really knows. He cheers me up so many times. He isn't always such an idiot."

"That's...really sweet. I just wanted to ask because sometimes it looks like only you can handle the kid," Liz said, "Oh and I've pretty much searched everyone. They're not here."

"Well let's check another classroom then." With that, both girls walked out and continued through the halls.

Room after room they looked, but no sign of the two.

"What about you, Liz?" Tsubaki asked after a while, "why do you stay with Kid? He seems to be a real pain sometimes."

"Do you want the whole story of how we met or do you want my reasoning?" Liz said, she pushed yet another door open and walked in.

"Reasoning, I've heard the story as much as you've heard the one of me and Black Star."

"Well even though he's an annoying, bossy kid, he has his moments. To tell you the truth, I feel like he would practically die if Patty or I wasn't around. Plus the symmetry issue is bad but at least it's somewhat bearable and it makes the house clean." Liz replied, she the strolled over to a large cabinet in the corner of the classroom.

"But there isn't any other reason, maybe something deeper than that?" Tsubaki said, she  knew Liz was holding back. She could just feel it in her soul.

"A deeper reason..." Liz pondered,"I think what originally made me stay was the amount of power he had but even now that really impresses me. Like in NYC there are kids his age that just party and rot their lives, he's out there capturing souls and is literally Death's kid. All of it just makes me think how much I respect him."

Tsubaki smiled, she knew that there always is a deeper reason. She joined Liz by the large cabinet, the doors were heavy so it took both of them to open it. They finally got it open and were standing in front of the colossal thing when they were both shoved in.

Immediately they pounded on the door trying to get out but once they heard two boys snickering they knew they would have to get comfy.

"Black Star and Soul get us out of here!" Tsubaki yelled.

"Not a chance, I'm not going to class. This is way more fun." Soul said and the girls could hear the boys walking off.

The two of them yelled at the top of their lungs hopefully warranting someone's attention. Realizing it was no use, they slumped back down and waited. If this is what Ms. Leluna wanted in terms of a bonding experience, well she sure had it now.
