"Ugh! Mom! Leave me alone!" Foxkit pushed Silentwish's  face away from him.

Rosekit watched, sighing. How much longer until her apprentice ceremony? Moons had passed since the adventure in the river with Shadedkit, and now Foxkit and Breezekit were going to be apprentices! It seemed so unfair... But at least now she could eat normal prey! She was so excited about that.

"Oh, Foxkit! Today is your special day! You need to look nice!" Silentwish mewed, then gasped as she saw Breezekit. "Breezekit! Where have you been? You look like you fell into a badgers den and then into a pit of mud! You're becoming an apprentice, you mouse brain!"

Flamefur walked into the den, purring as he saw his mate and kits. He strode over to Foxkit. "Looking good, son." He purred, then padded over to Silentwish and Breezekit. "Are you ready to be an apprentice?" He asked his daughter, a proud purr in his voice.

"More than anything!" Breezekit mewed, her eyes shining.

"Let all cats old enough to swim gather here beneath the High Tree for a Clan meeting!" Froststar's voice rang out from the meeting place, the Hightree. Silentwish, Flamefur, and their kits trotted out of the camp.

Echostep gave Rosekit a lick around the ears, noticing her jealousy. "Don't worry, Rosekit." She purred. "Your time will come soon."

Gingerpool lifted her head weakly. Her kits were very overdo and she was huge. "Tell me about it later." She mewed, her voice cracked, to Echostep.

The gray striped she-cat dipped her head, then padded to the edge of the den. "We'll watch from here." She decided, sitting down. Silverkit, Shadedkit, and finally, though reluctant, Rosekit followed her lead.

The whole meeting was a blur. Little Rosekit's mind was on other things. She was trying to remember a dream she knew she had had before, but she couldn't put a paw on it. She shrugged. When she became an apprentice, who would her mentor be? Hopefully she would get a cat that was really skilled so she could become the best warrior ever for her Clan! Rosekit flicked her tail proudly. She would be the bravest warrior ReedClan has ever seen!

"Your mentor, Breezepaw, will be Shimmermoon." Froststar's voice rang in Rosekit's head.

Rosekit watched as the sleek, shiny-pelted gray warrior stood happily and touched noses with the new Breezepaw. Silentwish and Flamefur began yowling their kits' names,

"Foxpaw! Breezepaw!" They chanted, the rest of the Clan joining them, yowling the names of ReedClan's newest apprentices.

After the gathering, Echostep chatted with Gingerpool, who had slept through the gathering and hadn't moved from her nest in what seemed like ages.

"Foxpaw's mentor is Falconflight, and Breezepaw's mentor is Shimmermoon." Echostep finished.

"Oh, isn't that... Lovely." Gingerpool murmered, drifting off to sleep again.

Echostep turned to her kits, amusement dancing in her gaze. "Okay, why don't you three go share a rabbit or a fish or  something?" She mewed.

The three kits tumbled out of the nursery. Only Rosekit paused to look back at her mother. The amusement in her eyes had faded. Her eyes were glazed. Rosekit tilted her head. What was Echostep not telling her? Was she just worried about Gingerpool, or was something else bothering her. Rosekit shrugged, dismissing the thought, and scrambled after her litter mates.
