"Rosepaw!" A voice whispered, echoing through nothingness.Rosepaw blinked open her eyes. She was in a clearing in a forest, with mist swirling all around. "Wh...where am I?" Rosepaw whispered. She remembered curling up in her nest after a long, unsuccessful hunting expedition, but this certainly wasn't the apprentices' den, or anywhere in ReedClan territory, for that matter.
Glancing about her, confused, Rosepaw's eyes suddenly widened when she saw a cat solidify before her. With a gasp, she leapt backwards, studying the cat. It was a sleek she-cat with small paws and a lean shape, like all ReedClan cats were. But her outline was slightly faded, like smoke. She had gray paws, gray rings around her tail, swirls of gray on her back, and distinctive dark gray dashes on her face, so unique and astonishing they looked like swirling mist. And indigo eyes. The deepest and darkest and shiniest of indigo eyes. So deep that no emotion could ever show in them, no matter how great, because of that startlingly dark indigo veil. All in all, she looked more like a faded dream than an actual cat.
"And... who are you?" Rosepaw gasped.
"Mistyswirl." The she-cat meowed. Her voice was smooth and thick like honey, and as sweet as it too. "But we have more important matters to discuss here."
"Oh. Well I'm-"
"I know who you are." Mistyswirl meowed. "Rosepaw, the daughter of Echostep. The cat with the power of a prophecy heavy on her shoulders."
Overruling the shock at having her name known to this strange, misty cat, Rosepaw felt excitement and wonder at the mention of a prophecy. "A... prophecy?!" She gasped.
Mistyswirl dipped her head.
"So... you're from StarClan?!" Rosepaw ventured.
Mistyswirl gave an unexpected burst of laughter. "StarClan?" She managed. "What a mouse-brained thought!"
Rosepaw was slightly taken aback, shuffling her paws in embarrassment and confusion. "S-sorry. I thought..."
Mistyswirl regained herself, sitting with her tail curled neatly around her tiny gray paws. "There are some things," she purred. "That are not known to StarClan. This prophecy is not of StarClan, it is of a place far nobler, far greater, far more wonderful that the dreams that medicine cats can ever imagine."
Rosepaw felt dizzy, not wanting to avert her gaze from those dark, mesmerizing indigo eyes. All she could do was tilt her head slightly, wonder sparking her gaze. "So... where are you from?"
Mistyswirl purred. "You have the spirit of your mother." She sighed, shuffling her paws around. "Well, if some things are not known to StarClan, do you expect them to be revealed to an average Clan apprentice?"
Rosepaw felt slightly indignant, but she held back a sharp retort. "I guess not." She muttered.
"All I will tell you, young one, is that you were destined for greatness from the start. From the very moment you opened your eyes, you were special, not to StarClan. StarClan is given great glory, but really they are just weak cats like you, but dead. I say, why do you put your hope and trust and faith in dead cats that don't even know more than you do? Oh, no, Rosepaw. From the start, you were special to a great place, far greater than StarClan. I am from that great place. That is all you need to know, don't you think?"
"I suppose so." Rosepaw murmured.
"Good. But remember this, Rosepaw. Darkness will devour the weak, and shadows shall be cast on the rest."
Rosepaw perked up her ears. That's my prophecy?! She thought. That doesn't sound like I'm destined for greatness! That sounds like... some weak cat will be hurt! What does she mean? What should I do? "But..." Rosepaw started.
"Prophecies are mysterious things, Rosepaw. You must not speak of this to any cat. This prophecy was delivered to you because you were the only cat with more power than a medicine cat. You can speak to greater powers than the most wonderful cats in StarClan. You, Rosepaw, are special. Do not forget this, or your power and renown through all the Clan shall never be. Do you understand?"
"Y...yes." Rosepaw gulped. She held that unwavering indigo gaze for a moment, before Mistyswirl began vanishing into a cloud of mist.
Rosepaw gasped. "No!" She howled. "Don't leave me! Nooooooo!"
Darkness will devour the weak, and shadows shall be cast on the rest.
(What do you people think the prophecy means? :3)
