On Mount Silver, Red spent his day as usual. Call him a freak if you want to, he doesn't care at all. It was colder that day, it was snowing heavily outside. The raven sat down next to the fire in his cave, leaning his back against Snorlax who was as always sleeping soundly. Pikachu climbed on his shoulder and all three of them were trying to bare with the cold.
How long had it been?
Three years?
Yup, three years. He had gone on that mountain for three years since he was thirteen and he had not gone down since. You'll be surprised how many people had dropped valuable items while training on the mountain. For whatever it was, it was one too many.
Being the champion of Kanto, many had tried to find him there on the mountain to try to take the title and failed. He could only remember one person who managed to find him on the peek of the mountain. He went by the name "Gold" and he was the only one who managed to defeat him. Gold didn't take the title "champion of Kanto", however, it was because the younger teen was already the champion of Johto.
That was the first time he had actually met and fought with another champion. Gold came there as frequently as possible but being a champion wasn't easy. Not when you were given responsibilities.
Gold was about two years younger than him so he was fourteen that year and was twelve when they first met. And then came other champions from different regions; Ruby, Diamond and Black. The five of them got along really well, and they were encouraged to. They didn't fight because champions shouldn't be going off and maim each other.
Red was about to fall asleep when a certain trainer had used Fly to get on the mountain. The crimson eyed teen had suspected Gold but the one that had paid him a visit was another red eyed and black haired teen. Red chuckled, for the younger to visit him during a snowy day like that day... how nostalgic.
Ruby stayed quiet and rolled his eyes. "Stop laughing. Your jokes are lame." A gust of wind blew and the teen shivered.
"Aren't you supposed to be immune to cold, Yuki?" Red questioned.
"Shut up Red," Ruby said, grimacing when Red said his last name. The champion of Hoenn took out a piece of card from his bag and gave it to him.
Red looked at the younger champions' red eyes, "What's that?"
"An invitation."
"No thanks," Red answered immediately. "I'm not going off this mountain."
"I got one too," Ruby reasoned.
"Then go on without me."
"I wouldn't be here if it was something not important."
Red raised a brow. "Brendan, did the others got one too?"
Ruby nodded. "There were no pokemon that could send a mail on the mountain so they sent it to the nearest gym. Since you are hopeless and a lot of people didn't actually know that if you are still on this mountain, they sent your invitation card to every gym inside and outside Kanto. My dad was the one who gave me mine and since yours was lying around, they decided that I should send it to you."
Of course they told him to, Ruby was the only one who would stop by at the gym because of his dad. Everyone else was either in a forest or somewhere remote from the city.
Back to the main topic, if it was a mere invitation, all of them would decline it and let it rot. But this one was something really important that "they" had told Ruby to send it to him.
The sixteen-year-old gave up on persisting and took the card from the Hoenn champion. Red read along the lines of "invite", "trainers", "best of the best" and "school". He had the urge to toss it in the fire but since it was something important, he had to restrain himself from doing so.
Red looked up as if he was asking the heavens, "So let me get this straight, you want us to go back to school? Why exactly?"
"We see it as a good opportunity." A voice said.
"Good opportunity? There's a reason why we distance ourselves from populated areas," Red said, he then shifted his gaze at Ruby. "Why did this have to happen?"
"We didn't plan this. But as we had said, we saw it as a good opportunity for you to see the ones you are separated from."
"We aren't separated. We left them in our own will," Ruby said.
"You won't have that will if you weren't champions."
Ruby and Red stayed silent.
"Go back. Go back to your loved ones."
"We expect all of you would be in the academy once the term starts."
Red pulled down his cap. So it was time for him to get back to Pallet Town after all. The raven sighed and stood up, waking up Pikachu and Snorlax.
Ruby put his hands into his pockets. "You heard them. The academy is located on an island south of Johto. We would wait you at Ethan's place."
"Go back to Hoenn, Brendan."
The younger teen turned his back. "I'll see you later then," he said as he walked out of the cave. A loud cry was heard and a gust of wind blew, blowing the camp fire he had set up.
Red grabbed his backpack, sent Snorlax back into his pokeball and let Pikachu climbed his arm to his shoulder. He walked out of the cave and the weather was now sunny. The teen shaded his eyes because of the bright sunlight. At least it's not a blizzard anymore.
Thanks Ruby, he thought before he set off to his destination to Pallet Town.
