Chapter 18
Cross Your Hearts
Cross Your FingersPearl thought he was going insane. The moment the electrical shock had faded away, his eyes became blurry. Then there was a literal light show at the dining hall. Colours. He saw colours from everyone. Or to be more specific, ropes that glow neon.
The dining hall was filled with people and he saw everyone having these things tied to their ring finger. He saw these two girls looking at each other from across their table, they were staring and when they blushed and looked away, Pearl saw it. The thing, glowed. The rope glowed brightly and guess what? They were tied to each other, the end of the things connect.
Maybe it was just them but he didn't saw anything tied to his fingers. But why was he the only one?
Even Wally had one though he was the most interesting one he had ever seen. Because when all the other ropes he saw were all straight lines and untangled, Wally's was tangled; it didn't connect only his finger, it wrapped around his chest like was strangling his heart.
Barry Jun decided not to ask about his delusion. Although, he could feel a pang of guilt once he a tangled rope.
There were only two out of five of the rivals that came for dinner that night. Where could the other three went? He didn't know. That was why they were going to found out.
They approached all three of them in N's room; he apparently could fit a skateboard ramp in there; all of them were in the room surrounded by paper or in Green's case, books. It reminded Pearl the times when he was doing all this League Champion stuff. Thank Arceus that there weren't any drama in his region.
Just when he thought Wally was the most unique one, there were more people that had mysterious cases.
At first, he thought N didn't have one like him but when he stared there's a thin green rope tied to his finger. It was so slim that he couldn't see it for far too long, it vanished in the light.
Silver's rope reflected his name, it was silver coloured though it took all his strength to not scream when he saw it getting tangled. It was worse than Wally's. Definitely worse than anyone else, in the exception of N.
Bright. That was one word to describe it. Green's rope was glowing brighter than any of the others he had seen. It wasn't in any damaged condition, not tangled and definitely not in slim.
"Green, what's this?" Barry asked, grabbing the book that was lying on the table.
"It's... a storybook," Green told, he was hesitant but he looked at Pearl in the eye and continued, "You should heard about the story. The one about about the three guides, strings and stuff."
It was a fairytale. One that every kid in Sinnoh knows.
"Can I borrow this?!" Barry asked immediately, his voice loud as usual.
"Wait-" Silver spoke.
"Sure," Green told, earning a glare from Silver.
"Thanks!" Pearl said, running away from the cancerous place.
A fairytale that everyone in Sinnoh knows. He recalled.
One about Strings of Fate.
A love that was determined by God.
Played around by the Fates.
Connected by Cupid.
Guided by Nature, Luck and Death.
