Prologue:
"GUYS!" She yelled out at the top of her lungs, as the sounds of rushing wind continued to hit her ears. The tears in her eyes had already felt like they were freezing onto her face. They were lost to her, she couldn't find her friends. On top of that, she hasn't been able to find her boyfriend in days. It's been a week.
"... SKYE? ..."
A distant voice spoke her name, but she couldn't figure out who it was.
"Hello?! I'M RIGHT HERE!" Skye screamed out until her throat hurt.
"SKYE! WE'RE HERE!" She could hear the voice clearly now. Skye squinted as hard as she could until she could see distant figures.
"GUYS!" Skye yelled, with a happy voice. She ran towards her friends, and the first person to receive a hug, had been Lauren. "Guys, oh my gosh, I can't believe I found you."
"We were looking for you everywhere, dammit! We thought you got lost!" Ingrid huffed over the strong winds. Skye gave a deep breath, feeling a sense of relief. Then, she remembered why they all got separated in the first place.
"Have you all found him yet?" She asked them.
Alex spoke up, "no. We've looked everywhere within a 5 mile radius of camp. He's nowhere to be found.
Skye feels a sense of dread. She should have listened to Brandon. This was a stupid idea, coming to Alaska, and for what? Northern Lights? Is that the only reason she wanted everyone to come with her? Stupid.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
"Um, guys?" Bree hesitated, and everyone looked at her. "Do you hear that?"
A low rumbling sound hit everyone's ears and the 5 friends looked up.
"FUCK. AVALANCHE." Skye yelled, as the piles and piles of snow started to tumble down the mountain. Alex, Bree, Lauren, Ingrid and Skye tried to run. Try, being the keyword. Their last looks were to each other as the snow toppled upon their helpless bodies.
One Month Ago
"Come on guys, I think it will be fun. Alex, didn't you say you wanted to see the northern lights, too?" Skye asked, hoping someone would say yes to her idea of going to Alaska. It was the last few months of summer, before she had to go back to college. She wanted to make the most of it.
"Well, yes I did... But I agree with Brandon. I think it's a bad idea. I mean, we don't even have the resources." Alex put on a thinking face as he tried to think of anything that would help Skye listen.
"See? We all think it's a bad idea, Skye. We can't go," Brandon said, feeling a little bad that he was telling her no, but it had to be done. They didn't have the money, and they wouldn't have the resources.
"Well, I think it's a GREAT idea. Fuck what you all think," Lauren gets up and puts a friendly arm around Skye's neck. "When do we leave the idiots who keep shooting the idea down?"
"I want to go too, I think it would be fun." Bree shrugs, and gets out a pen and paper. "If we don't have the resources, we'll get them. So what would we need?"
Skye looks at the three who turned down the offer. "I've been saving up tons of money for this trip since the start of this summer... I really want you all to go. Please?"
Ingrid, Alex, and Brandon look at each other, as if they were contemplating decisions. As if they had a telepathic conversation between themselves, Brandon looks back at the three girls and says, "We're gonna need camping equipment. And extra warm clothing. Tons of food, and thing that will help us catch food, a fishing rod...."
As Brandon went on about what they were going to need, Skye smiled like a child on Christmas, as Lauren gave Skye a very big hug when she learned that everyone was agreeing.
Skye remembered thinking, "this is going to be the best trip ever."
Boy... Was she wrong.
