Chapter 5:
The next day, Skye decided to venture off on her own. She wanted to take a walk, clear her mind. It was about 6 in the morning, and everyone else was asleep. She didn't want to wake anyone up, they were all sleeping so soundly. She grabbed her backpack, put a couple things inside that she would need and she set off.
The day was quiet, and nothing but peaceful. At least, the outside world was. Inside her mind, she was a jumbled mess. She couldn't figure out how Brandon could have slipped so far out of her grasp. One second he was there, and the next, he's gone.
Skye kept replaying that night over and over again in her head. The moment he pushed her back to run faster, the moment she got out of the cave alone and didn't know it until Alex said something. The moment she thought if they had listened close enough, they could hear her heart breaking.
Skye decided to stop thinking for a moment, and enjoy the scenery. The mountains in the distance, made for the perfect scene. She wanted to capture that moment before it went away. So she did. Skye took out her phone, and took a picture. She smiled when she knew she caught it perfectly, and went to look at it. Her eyes scanned over the photo and caught something off in the distance. She squinted at the photo, but then looked up to look at whatever it was that she found.
Her eyes scanned over the place, until they set on, what looked to be, a log cabin.
Skye wondered if there was anyone living there. She thought for a little bit longer, and decided that maybe whoever does live there, could have seen if Brandon came this way?
Skye knows this walk was supposed to clear her head, but it couldn't hurt to check, right? So, with that reassuring thought in her head, she walked toward the cabin, with hope.
At least, with what little hope she had left.
---
When Skye arrived at the cabin, it looked anything but lived in. It honestly looked abandoned. Skye went towards one of the windows and peeked inside. Of course, the interior looked worse than the exterior. The table and chairs were broken, the couch looked worn out, the lights looked broken. Honestly, it looked like someone had a fight in here.
Skye, being curious as ever, decided to head to the door. She tried opening it, but the door merely broke off the hinges. Skye quickly put both hands on the door to keep it from falling. She made a face like she knew she was guilty, and carefully placed the door on the wall next to where it should be and went inside, without a second thought.
She scanned over the whole place and went to the cracked table, which had some type of journal on it. Skye picked it up and opened the journal. It's not like anyone was missing it, if it's in this abandoned place.
The first page consisted of a drawing of... something. Skye couldn't really figure out what it was, only that it had sharp teeth and a lot of fur. She turned the page.
The next page actually had a couple sentences written. It had read:
"This thing, is neither man or beast. It is both. Or, at least, it has the stance of a man, and the intelligence of a man, but it looks and hunts like a beast. Encountering this thing could mean your death, for it is faster than you can run. I should know... I've encountered it twice."
Skye bit her lip, feeling a little anxious and kept reading.
"Once was in a cave, not far from this cabin."
The cave she and Brandon went in.
"He claimed the life of my boy. From that day forward, I vowed I would hunt this man beast down, and I would kill him."
