Chapter 7
I became conscious when EJ removed my head from his arm and rolled himself out of our bed. The way he was so gentle about taking my head off his arm, I could tell he wasn't trying to wake me. He carefully lifted my head and slowly set it back down against the soft and fluffy pillow. EJ made sure I was covered up and warm before he went on to whatever he got up to do.
I kept my eyes closed as he dug through one of his bags and walked off into the bathroom. Once the door clicked shut, I shot my eyes open and studied how dirty the room had gotten since the very first night here just a little over three weeks ago. Once we had woken up the next day, EJ had continued to search for her, search for a good time to go and spy. Since she was my mother, I had to be the one who spied on her.
The first time I spied on her, she was at a store buying food, probably for her little ones. She was alone the first time. No kids, no. . .new husband. I couldn't tell it was her because she had dark reddish brown hair, not blonde like it was in all the pictures. She was a little taller than I remembered as well, and she had lost weight. The clothes she wore fit her body very well, the dark colored skinny jeans brought out her skinny and perfect legs, the top was an army green and it hung down to her upper thigh.
She was so beautiful, I can see why Dad had admired her so much. How her curly hair could do any hair style and still look perfect, her smile could brighten even the worst of days, her eyes could move mountains. She was his goddess, she was his Disney Hercules. Without her, he's dying, just like Meg.
The last few times I saw her. . .she wasn't alone. A couple times she had two kids with her, and another time she had a man with her. He looked familiar but I couldn't place where I had seen him before. It was almost as if I had dreamt him in a nightmare. He felt so surreal, but at the same time it felt like I had met him.
The two kids looked to be twins, both had extremely curly hair, just like Mum and Dad's, although both of the kids had Harry's green eyes and brown hair. They looked to be about ten or eleven years old, just like EJ said they would be. I never imagined them to look so much like Dad. He would have been so proud of our little family.
But a couple days ago we lost her.
We haven't seen her since she was in a coffee shop with that man. They seemed to be having a serious conversation, but I was too far away to hear what it was about. It must have been something about leaving. . .or maybe they've figured out who I am? Whatever is was, they were gone.
"Oh, I didn't wake you did I?" EJ's voice startled me as I realized he was standing in front of me with a towel wrapped around his lower half. He must have just gotten out of the shower because his body was still a little wet from the water dripping from his hair. His face was clean shaven unlike it was yesterday. Yesterday he had stubble on his face, any longer and it could've classified as a beard.
EJ stood there with his eyebrows raised, waiting on me to give him an answer. The truth of the matter was that I couldn't answer. I was too lost in his body, too mesmerized. All he had on was a towel, leaving his top portion bare, exposed. EJ was clearly toned, he had been working out. His stomach was defined, but only slightly could you pick out his six pack. His arms flexed and you could see his muscles. My eyes floated up to his. We just stayed there, locking our eyes.
EJ clenched his jaw slightly and walked towards me. He stopped and sat down on the bed right by my legs. He wouldn't look at me so I sat up. I realized my tank top was pulled down farther than normal and I quickly fixed it before EJ had the chance to look.
Now that EJ was a little bit closer I could tell he had dark circles under his eyes. "EJ? Have you been sleeping?" He looked up at me and nodded his head. I furrowed my eyebrows at him and placed my hand on his shoulder. "EJ, you're lying, I can tell by the circles under your eyes." His head twisted over my way and I studied his moves, but there wasn't much. He kissed my forehead and stood up. I closed my eyes, settling my racing heart down.
