Chapter 8
I sat straight up in bed, breathing in heavily, gasping for oxygen to fill up my lungs. Sweat was pouring out of my pores and rolling down my face. It felt as if someone had poured watered-down grease on my forehead with how slick and easy it was to wipe off. My eyes were darting around the room to find EJ, but he wasn't anywhere to be found.
His computer wasn't on, his side of the bed was a mess from where he wasn't. The bathroom door was open, lights off. It was just pitch black, nobody was here other than me. His clothes were all over the floor like they have been, but he wasn't here. That's the only thing that was different.
"EJ," I called out, "are you there?" Silence. Nothing. "EJ, if you're playing a trick on me, cut it out. This isn't funny anymore!" Carefully I slid from underneath the covers and placed my feet gently onto the floor. I was in nothing but shorts and a tank top that was too small length-wise. This wasn't what I wore to bed, and it left me confused. Soft voices came from all around me, but they echoed too much for me to decipher what they were saying, so I carried myself out to the hall to see that I was no longer in the hotel room. I was indeed outside and it was dark, almost like it was night time or early morning.
I looked all around me and all I saw was a little beach house in the middle of a grassy area. I couldn't tell any details about the house other than Liam was inside with a woman. Her hair was curly and blonde and I could've sworn she looked like mum, only she was pregnant; very pregnant. She looked to be studying her surroundings and that's when I caught a glimpse of something moving around the house with something shiny. Being the curious person I was, I followed them.
When I got to the corner I saw the person whose face was visible thanks to the light from the house. His face sent chills down my spine because it was the guy mum kept hanging around. I watched what he was doing only to see him pull out a gun and hold it up to the window.
Bam.
Bam.
Bam.
Bam.
Bam.
Bam.
Six shots and he was gone.
"No," I screamed. I rushed over to the window where I saw her laying on the ground. Blood covered her clothing around her stomach. This man tried shooting her stomach to kill her kids. But why? "Mum!" Tears were falling down my face as I was standing there watching everything happen, but that's when I felt something rolling down my face and entire body. I touched my forehead and looked down at my stomach to see blood. It was coming from my stomach, right thigh, and left calf. There was blood on my hand as well, so I was assuming my head was bleeding.
That's when the pain set in. Pain from my entire body pushed me to the ground where I fell into endless screaming. "EJ, please help me! Save my mum! Save me." Tears flooded my vision as I rolled to my side. "Someone," I called out, beginning to cough. "Anyone," I whispered, blood now coming from my mouth.
"Mum," I screamed as I sat upright to see EJ in front of me, all the lights being on. I seemed out of breath, as if I just ran down ten flights of stairs. My mum was nowhere to be found and I was quite simply back in the room with EJ, his big eyes staring at me softly but with concern. Seeing his face calmed me slightly as I snaked my arms around his neck and slowed my breathing down.
EJ rubbed my back softly and held me there. "Hey, what's wrong?" He pulled me back to study my face, only earning a desperate look from me. "You were screaming my name and I kept answering you, but no response." I nodded my head, still coming to the sense I was actually with EJ and not in my dream. "Then you started screaming for your mum. Is everything all right?"
