Chapter 9

Three Days After the Accident

"Darcy? Oh, my baby! How did this happen?" His touch was soft against her skin, his emotions cradling her own. He kept kissing her, hoping, praying, she would wake up. "It's okay. Daddy's here." Harry kissed her hand, letting her know everything was all right. The door clicked open and another presence entered the room. Harry sighed, knowing that it was time and it was over.

"I'm sorry, sir, but the doctor said your visitation hour is over. You can come back again tomorrow." The voice was sweet, almost like Rissa's, but not the same. He nodded, bent over to kiss his daughter on the cheek and stood up. "She knows you're here. If she wakes, I'll surely call you." He whispered a thank you on his way out, and that's when the nurse came over to check her vitals. Nothing was wrong, but she still wasn't waking up. Everything this young nurse tried wasn't working, but she wouldn't give up. Her career was riding on the line.

Seven Days After the Accident

Pain. Excruciating pain is what Darcy was feeling. She felt like screaming, but her body wouldn't respond to her. Instead, she cried, though no one was around her. How long had she been like this? How long was she going to be like this? Was Harry still visiting? Where was EJ? Questions ran through her head, although none of them could be answered. She screamed for her mum and her dad, though it was into a silent echoing void of her mind. Daddy, she called. Daddy, please. . .

Fifteen Days After the Accident

"Oh, my sweet daughter." The voice was cooed. "My sweet, sweet daughter. What have you gotten yourself into?" A soft hand cupped her face, what was visible, anyway. "I shouldn't have let you do that. I should've known something was going to happen." Tears rushed from the visitor's eyes and onto the fabric Darcy was covered up with. "I never imagined you would've came for me, I honestly thought no one cared for me. Especially from you guys."

The door clicked open. The woman knew. "Ma'am, I'm afraid I have to ask you to leave. Visiting hours are over now." The visitor held up her hand and nodded slowly. "I'll give you a few minutes to say goodbye." She started crying over Darcy. Her own daughter? How could this have happened?

"Darcy, I am so sorry this happened to you. I should've just came. You wouldn't be here about to die. You would be awake with your father."  She sniffled. "I would take it all back if I could."

"Ma'am."

"Goodbye, Darcy. I'll see you soon." With that, her mum kissed her forehead and left, trying to hold herself together.

Mum, Darcy screamed only to receive echoes back. Don't leave me, she whimpered.

Thirty Days After the Accident

"I'm afraid that after thirty days have passed and no signs of waking up, we have no choice but to remove her off of the system." James broke out into tears, as Matthew just held my hand. "I'm sorry, but it's likely that she has suffered too much brain damage. If she were to wake up now, there'd be no chance of her survival."

"No, don't you dare say a damn thing about taking my little girl off of this machine. She's been on sleeping drugs and morphine to help with the pain since day one! Couldn't you be giving her too much?" Harry fought back against the doctor's judgement. "You're slowly killing my little girl, and I won't stand for it. I'm not going to let you take her off. She'll wake up soon. She has too. . ."
