I sighed and glanced at my phone, 7:30pm it shown brightly with my screensaver of me and Lila grinning with the beach in the background. I had taken the picture on our last trip, the last one ever. I frowned and threw my phone onto the bed beside me.
I wondered what she was doing, on a normal day at this time we'd be at mall since it was a Thursday and our favorite smoothie place had a two for sale on thursdays. Their mascot, a strawberry smoothie cup that sang a song about something but no one could ever understand the words, would dance around in front of the storefront on thursday from 6:30 until the mall closed at 9. I wondered if Lila was at the mall today getting her usual, a strawberry mango smoothie, without me. I half wondered if she had already made a new friend that would replace me over time.
I was going to drive myself crazy thinking these things. I was just about to stand up when the door burst open and a grumpy looking Jacob followed by a protesting Jace entered the room. "You can't just open someones door and barge in" I heard Jace telling Jacob before he walked farther into the room. Jacob glared at me and dropped one of my bags on the floor. "Jordan said to tell you that ice cream is ready and if you don't get soon ill be gone." He continued glaring at me as he left the room, bumping into Jace as he left.
I looked at the floor, half wondering what I did to make most of this family and half not liking how they all acted towards each other and wondered if it was my fault. "Sorry about Jacob" Jace said quietly and set down the other two bags that I had brought with me. "He can be a jerk sometimes."
I nodded but didn't look up from the spot on the floor I was now focusing on. Jace left the room at some point, I was sure when exactly but he had shut the door behind him. I picked up my phone yet again to see if I had missed any texts from Lila or anyone else back home. But all that was there was my screensaver and the time that read 7:37 pm. I wondered if time moved slower here or something because it felt like it had hours instead of minutes.
I sighed and flopped back onto he bed and stared at the ceiling, minutes later I heard footsteps and hoped that it was someone going to their room but I had no such luck as someone knocked lightly knocked three times on the door.
"Come in" I said in a soft voice sitting up. I wasn't even sure if they had heard me over the noise coming from downstairs, but apparently they did because the door opened a boy stepped inside. He was grinning until he saw the look on my face, I must be frowning. I did it so often lately I couldn't tell the difference from frown or smiling anymore.
"Whats wrong" asked Nathan at least thats what I thought his name was. There were so many of them I wasn't completely sure anymore. "Nothing" I answered quietly. "Then why are you sad?" he asked frowning as he walked father into the room and sat to me on the bed" besides the fact that I had to move several states away from the only home I've ever known, my best and my life. and to top it all off I'll never see my dad again? I thought silently but I couldn't say that, it would be rude and he didn't deserve it. It wasn't his fault. "Um" I muttered and ran a hand threw my my hair "Sometimes people get sad sometimes and theres no way to explain it." I told him quietly hoping he would be satisfied with my answer.
"Thats weird" He said "I know what'll cheer you up" He said grinning, I almost laughed he was grinning so boldly and seemed so sure of himself "Whats that" I asked him smiling slightly for his benefit. "Jordan started his world famous ice cream before he left to go you from the airport, Its finished now thats why everyone is in the kitchen." Nathan continued to grin "Come on, you'll love it" He said jumping up and pulling me up after him. "Well if its world famous" I said and let him pull me down the hallway and stairs to the kitchen.
When we arrived at the kitchen it took me a minute to process the seen in front me, The moment we stepped into the kitchen Nathan let go of my hand and ran over to his brothers William and Benjamin who were sitting at a big kitchen table with empty bowls in front of them . They were peering into what must of been the ice cream machine, it made a horrible creaking noise as it churned its contents, making everyone have to yell over the sound. Jacob and Jace were deep in conversation at the other end of the table not sitting down but standing next to it both with bowls in their hands untouched. Max and Jordan were nowhere to be seen, and Mrs. Jones and what I assumed to be Mr. Jones were standing next to refrigerator talking to each.
