Jacob, Max and Jace augured the whole way to school, sometimes whispering things under their breath so nobody else could understand what they were saying. Not that I was actually listening.
When we pulled into the same parking lot Jordan had day, except this time there were a lot more cars and people for the size of parking lot. At first it seemed like a lot of people but my school but in LA was much larger.
Jace parked the car in the clsoest open spot near the field and everyone immediately got out of the car. I stood by the car for a second watching as Max and Jacob raced off towards the field to join their groups of friends. Jace walked around to the side of the car where I was standing and gave me an apologetic smile "I can't show you around school. Like Max and Jacob I have practice. Couch will bench me in our next game if I'm late and that probably means I'll get stuck with a bad position all season. Sorry." He shrugged before running after his siblings.
"Whatever" I muttered under my breath I was used to finding things out on my own anyways, it wasn't like I needed help. I wasn't five, it would of been nice but, I'd be okay without it. I had assumed that Nathan had left as well when he walked around the car. "Sorry about them" He gestured in the direction of his older siblings. "They only care about sports when we're at school. And at home most of the time actually"
"what about you?" I asked curious why he hadn't run off as well, even though I remembered Mrs. Jones telling me he was a freshmen he mist have some friends that were more interesting than talking to me, some random girl that was forced upon their lives for the next two years.
"I am the only one, in my family that doesn't obsess over some kind of sport." He emphasized the word only. He smiled and shrugged. I wondered if that bothered him or if ever felt like he didn't for in because of it, but I didn't ask because that would be rude and I didn't want to make the one person that was nice to me hate me as well."Well if sports isn't your thing then what is?" I asked before realizing that was probably a rude thing to ask. "I mean, if you don't mind me asking of course." He shrugged " No, your fine. I don't really have anything thats my thing, and only my thing." He said this like it was no big deal, I felt like there was something more to it but he didn't seem like he wanted to share. So I wouldn't push.
I looked around for a moment before realizing I didn't know any of my classes or my schedule. I almost started panicking because I didn't know where the office was or anything. "Nathan, do you know where the office is?" I asked him hoping he would even though he was a freshmen, they must tell so things about the school layout, right?
"Yeah" He said as he looked around the grounds as if he was looking for someone before turning to look at me "Why?"
"I don't have schedule, unless your mom packed me one. But I doubt she would of been able to get one before I got here, or that she would of taken time out of her day to drive to the school to get one." I begun rambling as I was nervous for all aspects of a new school, where I didn't know anyone.
"Selene, Its okay" Nathan told me "come on, I know where it is." He stopped looking around and beginning eating me towards the schools side door. I wondered why we didn't go through the front door maybe there was a reason, but it didn't really matter.
When we stepped inside the school it felt like someone had the heat on because it was somehow hotter in the school building than it was on the outside in the sun.
Nathan lead me threw the hallways that were strangely bright, the white paint was peeling off the walls in some places and several of the walls were covered in vote for president Insert cheesy line, vote for me.
Nathan opened a door at the end of the hall and i followed him in a dark blue room. I wondered why it was blue when the hallways were white but it didn't matter.
A short lady with long brown hair turned away in her swivel chair when the bell above the door alerted her of our presence. "Mr. Jones" She smiled shortly at him before turning to look at me briefly before turning back to Nathan. "How may I help you?" She asked her voice sounded sickly sweet.
"This is Selene" He gestured to me "I believe mom enrolled her"
She at me again before turning to her computer that looked like it was from the 90's. "First and last name" She said shortly
Nathan turned to look at me when I answered "White, Selene White." I fiddled with the bracelet on my wrist nervously. Did I do something to make everyone here hate me?
Nathan and I stood in awkward silence while the office lady typed something on her computer that seemed to take forever to do.
The first bell rang "You'd better get to class Nathan or you'll be late." She said still typing on her computer. "Its okay, Im sure Mr. Tyler will be okay with me being a few minutes late as I'm helping a new student."
A couple minutes later the second bell rang and I once again wondered what in the world could be taking so long to type up. The printer across the room buzzed and begun spitting out several papers. She walked across the room, grabbed the paper and set them down in front of me. "you'll need a parent to fill these out. Your parents didn't complete the transfer papers." She glared at me before walking back to her chair and sitting down.
I looked awkwardly down at the papers then at Nathan, then back to the papers. I wasn't sure if Nathan knew why I was living with them for the next two years or if his parents just them someone was coming to stay with them.
"My dad's...." I started before Nathan stepped forward and interrupted me. "I thought mom came in and filled them all out"
"She isnt Selene's parent or guardian so she can't. Now if she was that would be a different story."
"She's Selenes guardian, now she is"
The office lady looked suspicious. "Mrs. Jones is not Selenes guardian. It says right here in her file. Daughter of Mr. Jonathan White, mother deceased." The lady showed nathan and I the paper.
"well then you better update your paperwork Ms. Lynn"
"Mr. Jon..." Ms. Lynn was interrupted by the third bell. "Class Nathan or I'll have to give you a trade slip and call your parents." Nathan looked like he wanted to argue but he didn't. He gestured for me to follow him so I did. He opened the door so Ms. Lynn wouldn't hear what he was saying over the sound of the people rushing to class. "I'll call mom she'll come and fix this"
I nodded "Thanks Nathan"
"don't worry about it" He grinned "I said its Nate only boring adults call me Nathan" He grinned as he turned and ran down the hallway to find his first class.I sighed, shut the door and walked back into the room.
"Do I need to call someone to come and get you Ms. White?" Ms. Lynn asked sounding annoyed. I thought for a moment, the only people I knew around here were the Jones and I didn't have any of their numbers. Not that I would probably call them even if I did. I sat down in a chair in the far corner of the room "Nope" I slipped down in the chair "Nobody at all" I whispered under my breath
