She was falling
Falling through emptiness
Through pale, blue water
The water changed from blue
To faded green
Green, that swirled around
Skimming her fingers
With clumps of seaweed
That tugged at her
That pulled at her
And she let them
She squeezed her eyes shut
Aching for the blackness
hoping the darkness
She'd read about to much
Would consume her
And drain her of her existence
But the green
Turned to a dark, raging blue
And it screamed at her
Throwing her across the ocean floor
Urging her to fight
She screamed into the water
Letting the water fill her lungs
Until she felt them straining
Under the weight
Of her existence
Push, the ocean told her
But she couldn't
She was falling
Through nothing
But at the same time, everything
She opened her eyes
Flinching
As water splashed her in the eye
Cursing herself
When she felt
Her heart beating in her head
She was drifting
Alongside vivid flashes
Blurred tails
Of silver-scaled fish
Flurries of them
She let herself fall
Watching
Waiting
She saw long, dorsal fins
And swaying water plants
Coral stabbed her in her toe
Seaweed wrapped itself around her
And there was silence.
Silence.
Silence.
