Lucian’s P.O.V.

As soon as we entered the café, Sasha stopped dead in his tracks, eyes widening for a moment. His stature went rigid and his lips parted for a bit.

“What’s wrong?” I asked him, even though I already had a hunch to what the answer will be.

He just turned his head from side to side a couple of times and proceeded forward. The Pheonix was sitting at a table with five chairs, one of which he was occupying.

“Well, let’s get this going.” I shot back to the two men behind me and went after Sasha. I could hear one of them snap his neck and the other chuckle, but they both followed. Or boots were creating loud thumps that attracted a lot of attention which quickly dissipated with a few choice glares.

All four of us took a seat with the Pheonix who was paying us no attention. He was reading one of the files he carried in. Sasha was sitting in the chair to Devlin’s left, me to his right and Rayne and Evan in the two remaining chairs in front of him.

“Why are you here?” he asked in a bored voice. That voice was only comparable to Black’s voice. Strong and hard, demanding attention.

“We need your help.” I answered him sternly. He just raised an eyebrow, clearly not impressed.

“No. We don’t need his help, we need a Pheonix’s help. He was just the quickest choice.” Sasha drawled and leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. This was new. Normally, Sasha wasn’t an aggressive person. Seems like the surprised from him won’t stop today.

“You’re sitting here with me and I’m a Pheonix so you do need my help.” Devlin mused, earning a growl from Sasha. He looked up from his file and for a second I could swear his eyes widened a bit and his nostrils flared, but he masked it instantly.

You could practically feel the tension between him and Sasha. If we weren’t in a public place, I was sure that Sasha would’ve attacked him already. I didn’t understand it very well, this tension and the Alpha battle they were doing with their eyes, but it wasn’t my problem so I wouldn’t pry.

“Well aren’t you two just a couple of rays of sunshine.” Rayne murmured rolling his eyes. Evan was silent throughout the whole exchange, but I could see a glimmer of amusement in his eyes.

“Okay, that’s enough.” I ordered, “We’re here to take you back with us so we can make an antidote.”

That got Devlin’s attention and his eyes fixated on me. This man was formidable. His cold, calculating eyes bore deep into me, searching for some sign of a lie or a cheat.

His muscles flexed as he leaned forward, put his elbows on the table and his chin on his knuckles. He looked every last bit like a mafia boss right then. I could basically feel the power radiating off him right now. I was sure that was intentional. He wanted to make sure that we knew how powerful he was. It was a smart move.

Too bad I wasn’t a person that was easily intimidated.

“Give me one good reason to why I should help you.” he demanded. I was relieved that he wasn’t one of those types that still kept to the past and despised all vampires.

“You’re going to help us if you don’t want to be poisoned by a replica of Medusa’s poison.” Evan said in a sharp tone, his brows furrowed.

“Tch. I’m a Pheonix. My body is immune to all diseases and poisons, no matter where they’re from.” Devlin said in an annoyed tone.

“You’re going to do it because if you don’t there’s a possibility that your mate will be poisoned and wolves aren’t immune to that poison.” Rayne supplied with a smirk.
