"...congratulations, graduates of 2016!"
With that, caps started flying in the air, and so I followedby throwing my own. I luckily managed to keep my eye on it and catch it, unlike most who got theirs all mixed up. Julia came running to me, an overly happy Miles in tow.
"Oh my gosh, can you believe it?! No more school! Whoo!" she screamed, her voice mixing with the noise of the our fellow graduates.
"You are aware that we still have college right?" said Miles, smiling at his girlfriend.
Yes, at the end of the year, I ended up being the third wheel among the three of us best friends. (I'm not really arguing though. They are kind of perfect for each other. I ship them.)
"So? There's summer right? And think of all the presents!"
Miles just laughed, a dreamy look in his eyes. They only became official two weeks ago, when I finally pushed Miles to grow a pair and ask Julia out. He was in deep for her, and no one could deny it. Not even Julia, who liked him a good lot as well.
He pulled her by the waist and surprised her (and me, because Miles Harper is a wuss) by pressing a kiss to her lips. I looked away, cringing, muttering, "Ugh, get a room guys," but on the inside, I was happy. They were happy, so I was happy. My parents were happy too, what with going up the stage to award their daughter with a medal, and the title of salutatorian (yeah, hard to believe, right?).
They pulled away, both smiling, and I stood there, and oh my gosh they are so goals.
After a few more hugs and photos and congratulations from friends and family, I finally sat next to Julia and Miles and let out a sigh.
"I guess that's it then, huh? High school's finally over." We all sighed simultaneously, then as if remembering something, Julia grinned widely.
"Remember when I first moved in when we were 5?" She laughed, reminiscing our childhood. We all shared the same wide goofy grins plastered on our faces.
"You didn't even want to live here," said Miles. That was true; she loved her old neighborhood, and she said she never wanted to leave. But her mother had to move her away from her old house to here in Columbus.
"Oh gods, do you remember that time when Miles saw Joanna Parker at the carnival in 2nd grade?" I said. Even Miles laughed.
"Oh God, don't even--"
"Yeah! He was waiting in line for a ride and then she passed by and he was all..." She tried mocking him by pretending to drool. "Then he tripped and then he..." She never got to finish her story due to her excessive laughter accompanied by me and Miles's.
"Oh my lord, why are we even talking about this?" Julia asked suddenly. "It's not like we won't be seeing each other in forever. We have the summer! College is months away!"
"Yeah, I guess you're right," answered Miles. "Friends forever right?"
"Psh, no, you and Julia are already boyfriend and girlfriend. Plus, you'll be married in the next 5 years at least," I retorted. To this Julia muttered a colorful array of profanities and Miles blushed faintly. "How did we even get so sentimental-y? Let's not even think about the time. Just think about the summer, yeah?"
