"Doctor...Will I stay like this forever?" The Hatter's eyes began to water as he thought of the monster he had become. He had seen those evil metal machines speaking with such hatred, will he become like this too? His hair suddenly lost its volume and fell down to his shoulders. He noticed the hate the Doctor had towards the Daleks, will he hate the Mad Hatter too?
"Doctor?" The Time Lord looked up with his sad, old eyes. He had to give the man an answer, but what will happen next? With short steps, he walked over to the Hatter and grabbed his shoulder with his left hand.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, but yes, yes you will stay like this forever. But only you can stop the Dalek eye from popping out, It's your choice to stay happy or to simply let the anger build up in you. Because of the Dalek in you, the hatred and anger will be much greater than it would be if you were your normal self".
The Mad Hatter looked at his brown leather shoes but said nothing else. Anger built up inside of him but he tried not to give in. He didn't want to hurt his new friend. After a few minutes of silence, the Hatter decided to speak up again.
"Why did the walls have a heartbeat?"
The Doctor sighed heavily. "I don't know, and I really don't like not knowing". He walked towards the control panel and pulled out a small screen that showed the area outsite his beautiful ship. It was just as he had left it. Dark and dusty with no sign of life. You wouldn't even have known that the Daleks were there unless you had seen them in their hiding place. But there's something that he's missing. Who's heartbeat is it? And why was it there, in the end of the Universe?
The Time Lord rubbed his face with both of his hands and sighed once again. How come they traveled to the end of it all? Why didn't they appear in England in the 1850's? Or New New York in they year 2400? Why here of all places?
The Doctor's eyes wandered towards the Mad Hatter who sat on the floor with his legs crossed and his hands linked together only to roll his thumbs.
There must be a connection of some sort that he can't see. A connection between The Hatter and the Red Queen perhaps?
"Hatter, what did you think of when you pushed that button?"
The man looked up with surprise that his alien friend actually wanted to talk to him after what he had become. "I wonder what this button do.."
"Nothing else?"
"Nope" he answered by popping the 'p'.
The Doctor thought for a little while until he spoke up again. "Hatter, what do you say about going on a little trip?"
"Where to?"
"Alice!"
The Mad Hatter nodded and a grin appeared on his face as the familiar TARDIS sound came on. He felt the anger inside him being replaced by excitement and joy, but little did he know that where they would go, was a place filled with danger.
