It was cold, so cold. The worst part about hiding is that you never know when or if someone will find you. You never know what awaits in the darkness.
"Doctor?" The Hatter said with a shaky voice.
"Schhh!"
"Bu-"
"I said schh! We're not alone in this room".
The Hatter shut his mouth as the Doctor pulled out his sonic screwdriver to use as a torch. It was a shock to see what was in front of him. A large group of frightened people squeezed together in a very small room. His eyes fell upon a girl that could be no more than sixteen years old who was bleeding from her shoulder.
The Doctor bent down and smiled at her to show that he wouldn't do her any harm. "Hello, I'm the Doctor, may I ask....what's your name?"
There was a short pause until the girl took a deep breath and said "I'm..."
"-Alice!" The Hatter cried as a he embraced her with a hug.
"....Hatter?" She whispered. "What are you doing here?"
"To find you....to help you, that's what friends to, right?"
"Yes, you're right, but I'm afraid that this is something that's too dangerous...I tried to save them, I really did...but then I got hurt and I...."
"Alice" the Doctor said as he interrupted her. "What did happen here?"
Her eyes watered "it was horrible...one day we were having the annual summer party at Kingsley's mansion when suddenly a.." she sobbed.
"Yes?" The Doctor said as he wanted her to continue.
"When suddenly a large round thing appeared in the sky... Mr. Andersen, the scientist, called it a U.F.O -not that I know what it means. Anyhow, shortly after the round thing began to spin as it let out monsters...." she wiped of a tear from her face.
"What did they look like?"
"They were metal...sort of like a machine, but this kind could kill. It burnt our city to the ground so we escaped to this one...which was already burnt".
She paused for a minute to calm down until she started to speak again.
"...But they came back! Every day after sun down, they came back to kill....t-to exterminate every living thing! They knew people would hide...Oh, I'm sorry! I'm just so scared!"
The Hatter hugged her as the Doctor smiled at her and said "only the bravest people can admit that they're scared".
"Really?"
"Yeah, and I know for a fact that you are really brave!"
"How do you know?"
"I have an instinct" the Doctor lied as he thought of the time he read the book Alice in Wonderland.
