Alexander was sat in one of the many office chairs that resided in the Dream Room. His eyes were fixed on the screen in front of him. These 'screens' were known as Dream Viewers. Every dream was assigned to one, Nightmare's watching as their human victims suffered torment, and Dreamers watching as their selected humans enjoy a delightful experience through sleep.
Today, Alexander had selected a girl far different than any other victims he had selected before. This one, he wanted to... Stick with. He, of course, transferred his own personality to someone in his victims dream that would subject her to the torment he was recognized for giving. That's how every dream does their work, whether Dreamer or Nightmare.
"Come outside, dear," said Natalie's mother. It was 11:00 at night, and her mother, as usual, was drunk to the point of no return. She had no choice but to comply, since angering her mother while drunk was an idea considerably worse than screaming "Hitler was a good man!" in a crowd of thousands of people.
Natalie swung her legs off the side of her bed, which was where she had been sitting. She grabbed her leather jacket and pulled it over her shoulders. It was August, and a slight chill was enough to freeze Natalie.
Walking out of her bedroom, Natalie glanced at her mother. Her unkept, blonde-orange hair and her chilling grin sent shivers down Natalie's spine.
As Natalie walked out, her mother placed her hand on her lower back in a guiding gesture. Confused and slightly fearful, Natalie looked at her mother in a questioning manner. She grinned in response and said, "There's nothing to be afraid of, darling."
Natalie didn't believe her. However, she didn't resist her mothers guidance in fear of angering her.
Natalie's mother eventually led her outside into the street after an agonizingly slow walk out of the house and through the front yard.
"Why are we on the street, mom...?" Natalie asked. "Hush, child," she replied. Natalie's eyes shifted quickly over the street.
Bright headlights could soon be seen turning onto the road. "Mom, there's a ca-,"
Natalie's mother, in one swift movement, knocked her feet out from under her. Natalie's head hit the ground with a hard thump.
Natalie, though she was still physically capable, could not bring herself to move. She was trapped inside her body, though only for a few more moments.
The car that had turned down the road sped up. Her mother grinned down at her helpless body. The car inched closer and closer, until finally-
"Alex," came a voice. Alexander looked up to see his brother Victor. "Yeah?" Alexander replied. "How... How are the nightmares?" Victor asked. Alexander grinned, eyes flashing with a glint of evil. "Very, very well..." he replied. Victor nodded. "That's... good," he said.
"Yes, and perhaps a bit too good?" came a voice.
