Next Morning
The next morning, the girls got together at the park and headed out for the mall. Checking out store after store, they each got a few outfits, sandals, bathing suits and then grabbed lunch at the nearby café. The boys on the other hand had went to the jewelry store.
“Okay look Cy knew this since it was always the butt of every joke while we played video games. But I think it's time she knew what I feel for her.” Beast Boy said to the group.
“Yea your ass got whipped cuz you kept staring at Raven the whole time, reading her book and you'd lose to any and every game!” Teased Cyborg.
“Yeah.. You did lose a lot when Raven was sitting on the couch all those years. And after all that has happened the last half of the year, wouldn't blame you the least bit.”
“The ass beating at the video games is not the matter.” Growled Beast Boy, “the matter is picking out the perfect engagement ring, somehow smuggling it on our trip and somehow asking her while we are on vacation. But one step at a time. “
They had walked into the store and was greeted by a sales worker, whom was dressed in a black tux and blue shirt. His name plated stated his name was Trey.
“Good afternoon gentlemen. Are we here to look for the perfect couples rings?”
“Now there's a man who knows business.” Cyborg exclaimed, “We're here so my buddy can pick out the perfect ring for his Gothic gal.”
“Gothic you say? Well we do have some black and dark blue diamond and sapphire sets over,” Trey gestured, as he led Beast Boy to the rear of the store to a display case.
Inside were black diamond pieces set in necklaces, bracelets, a few cocktail style rings and one small ring. Beast Boy asked Trey if he could see that one. Trey pulled out a slim pewter looking band with one midsize dark blue sapphire with white diamonds set in a single row. It glistened under the store's lighting in all ways. It mesmerized Beast Boy as he checked it over.
The guys had spread out looking at more in the display cases when Beast Boy called them over to check out the find. Cy and Robin nodded in approval.
“Ah man my little buddy to going to propose to my sister!” sniffed Cyborg at the thought. “Very mature move Beast Boy. Raven should be delighted and impressed you know her well. I'm sure she'll say yes. Proud of you.” Robin spoke with truthfulness. Beast Boy proud of his find and of the guys’ words of encouragement, he agreed to the ring that Trey showed him and they walked over to the counter. Beast Boy paid for the ring, watched it get cleaned, placed into a ring box and into a store bag along his receipt and the three friends left.
“Next question little buddy, how ya gonna get it to Hawaii without her seeing it? “
“Uhh.. Right. Not sure yet, but I'll think about it. “
That evening the couples met up and had had a movie night inside. The ring was safe for now in Robin's safe. Beast Boy told Robin not to tell Starfire for they both agreed she wouldn't contain her excitement.
Time flew and before the Titans knew it, it was the night before their trip. Starfire was rummaging around putting together two weeks worth of outfits, shoes, makeup and going wild meanwhile Robin grabbed his suitcase out and placed his two weeks worth of clothing and bathroom essentials.
“How do you men do it?” Starfire joked.
“Well see Star, us men don't need all the makeup and hair accessories. And honestly you being in your natural glow is good enough for me. Besides if we forget anything, I'm sure there is a store we can shop at.”
“Robin. Do you really mean it? I look better without the makeup?”
“Star you look your best even when you first wake up in the morning. Hair a mess and your eyes still full of sleep. You are the most beautiful girl I ever met and I'm lucky you will be my wife.”
“Oh Robin. That is the sweetest thing that has came out from your vocal cords.” She blushed and took out her makeup bag.
Meanwhile, in Raven's shared room with Beast Boy, they already had packed and were cuddled up watching a slapstick comedy.
She was laying on his chest, his one arm around her, while the other one grabbed a can of cola. Snoring lightly, he took notice to her falling asleep. Scooting his arm out from under her, he tucked her in and turn off the television set and dvd player. Their bags were by the door as he had gotten up and headed for the hallway. Hunger pained his empty stomach and his nerves were getting the best of him at this hour.
In the kitchen, he made a small tofu sandwich and grabbed some chips. Taking a seat at the bar style table, he ate in silence when his phone lit up.
“A text at this hour? “ he thought in disbelief. Opening his phone the message read
“Beast Boy. It's been a while now and I haven't gotten you off my mind. Though you are promised to another, I couldn't help but to send this for a last chance or even better a last sit down and chat. Just to ease my mind. Maybe closure is all I need and then I promise I will leave you alone.”
The number looked different. The message however was the same. It was Terra. He knew it in his heart it was from her. He wanted to reply back to get a life. Go find someone else to leech on to, but instead he set the phone down with a sigh. He was going to ask Raven to his bride. He knew in his heart that is what he wanted. He wanted that dark goth girl to be his light on his darkest days and his comfort blanket when he felt like a failure. She made him feel alive and after all these year, he fought those bad guys for her. Fuck Jump City. Those people never cared. She cared. She was the one who aided in his healing after battles. Who came to his rescue and whom he'd save. The animals he turned into may knock out the villains, but the Beast claimed Raven every time. Always making sure she was alright, healthy and safe. Beast Boy was and always had been in love with the lavender haired, dark girl. He watched her grow into the beautiful woman she is today and his heart was made for hers.
Opening his phone, he sent back a reply
“Terra.
I do not wish to talk to you. The answer is no. To anything you can muster up, it is no. My heart belongs to another. My soul claimed it's true love and I am happy. I don't need another trying to ‘talk’ about something from the past. Leave it alone. Leave me alone and especially leave us alone.”
He clicked off his phone, put his plate in the sink and headed off to return to his bride humming some wedding bells jingle. Funny he hasn't asked her, yet he acted as if she made him the luckiest man on the world. He didn't noticed the shadow moved outside the bay windows. The shadow grew smaller as if it faded from view from the Tower.
