He got up and asked Hazel why she was crying. She just looked at the ground and shook her head. So he got up, walked over to her, and hugged her. She cried on him for about ten minutes. After he got her to calm down, he once again asked Hazel what was wrong. She told him that she was hearing her fathers voice.

She said that she could hear him saying that he was coming to get her and that he was going to beat her again. So he reassured Hazel that her father wasn't coming for her. By that time it was almost 3 o'clock so he took her back to her room. He hugged her tightly and then went back to his room and fell back asleep.

He woke up a couple hours later, and she seemed as if nothing had happened earlier. They went and ate breakfast together as usual. He once more saw her reaching for his hand, and thus time he didn't pull away.

The days went by, and they became closer and closer to each other. About 9 months had passed since he was admitted, and the two were as close as ever. He woke up one morning to see Hazel smiling and laughing in his doorway. He asked her why she was so happy, but as soon as he asked he remembered that it was her birthday. She was overjoyed that he remembered. She asked what he got her, even though they both knew she was joking.

He just smiled and asked Jax to take them to the art room. Hazel was a bit puzzled by this, but Jax knew exactly what was going on. Once they got there, he told Hazel to cover her eyes. She did so willingly. After a couple of minutes she was told to look, and to her surprise, he was standing there holding a clay heart that he had made for her. It was painted orange, her favorite color. She was so overjoyed, she couldn't stop smiling. She took a quick look around to see if anyone was looking, and then she gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Now they were both smiling uncontrollably, and Jax stood there laughing. They enjoyed the rest of the day together. That night he woke up and walked over to her room. Hazel was wide awake. Next thing he knew, someone had put a hand on his shoulder, and he quickly turned around. He saw that it was Jax and Kayla, and felt immediate relief.

A couple months had passed, and his birthday came around. He didn't expect anything at all. He got up and saw a small note in his doorway. He picked it up and saw that it was from Hazel. He instantly smiled at the thought of her. He didn't really want to do anything that day, and everyone respected his decision. That night he was sound asleep. Hazel stood there watching him quietly. Next thing she knew, he jumped up screaming. Terrified, she jumped off of his bed.

Sorry for the long wait, been kinda busy. Enjoy though.
