Hazel had gotten very sick. She had to be put in the hospital. He had been very worried about her the whole time, and went to visit her every chance he got. Once she had gotten better, he was very happy. Once again, school had gotten in the way of them hanging out, but summer was only a few weeks away. They both had managed to get through the school year. So now it was back to doing everything together.

A month had passed, and her birthday was coming up once more. They didn't do anything special, and Hazel had told him not to get her anything. As much as he protested, she wouldn't let up. So he finally just went along and didn't get her anything. A couple more months had passed and it was now his birthday. He told Hazel not to get him anything, and she agreed that she wouldn't. Instead they just watched movies together at his house.

The school year had been great for both of them for the next two years, but the third year brought about a change for Hazel. A new student had just moved there, and instantly took a disliking towards Hazel, and began to bully her. And yet he was the only person that she told. So he began to try and make her smile as much as he could. With his help, she was able to push past all the bullying.

But as the year went on, the bullying got worse and worse, but not only that, others had started to join in as well. She became the joke of her class, a social outcast. The only person who could ever really cheer her up was him, so she went to his house to see him every chance that she got. It was at this point that she had begun to recognize her feelings for him, but she never told him about them for fear of pushing him away.

As the school year went by, she had gotten more and more depressed. As a result, her grades began to drop. Hazel had told him that she might get held back that year, but he wouldn't accept that. He helped her get her grades up as much as possible, and she ended up passing.

Summer came around once more, and her depression lightened up. She seemed happier now that school was out, but also because she got to spend time with him. Though no matter what she did, he still wouldn't notice her feelings for him, and she just couldn't bring herself to tell him either. So for now she just enjoyed her time with him.

The days went on and her 12th birthday had come up. This time he just ignored Hazel and got her another necklace since she had lost the first one he had given her. They spent the rest if the summer together, and she still yet had to confess her feelings for him, but she never did.

School started up once more, and Hazel's depression had come back. But yet again, just seeing him made her day so much better, and he began to notice that. So every time he got home from school, he would finish his homework and go upon to her house to watch a movie or something. Thus had always made her happy, for reasons unknown to him. Soon, his birthday had come up once more, but she had not come to celebrate it with him.
