Chapter 9
The fire escape was a good idea. They were away from the creeps. But now they were outside waiting for Rose's friend, and they couldn't stay up there forever. The creeps would find them eventually. Then they would be fucked.
Dave sighed. "So, when will your friends get here?"
Rose sat waiting with her feet crossed, looking down at her phone. "I have no idea to be perfectly honest, she's not answering my texts."
"Shit, maybe she's not coming, and we'll have to ride this goddamn plauge out like some hawaian surfer shitbags or something."
Rose smiled. "I would prefer not to, surfer shitbags is a theme I don't really fit into. Besides, I have faith in her, she'll be here." As if on cue, they heard an engine.
"Well, it's your lucky day. No surfer shit time for you." Dave stood up and got ready to let the ladder down. It was going to make a lot of noise, and there was no way in hell the creeps wouldn't hear it.
The truck's lights flashed down the alley, and Dave let the ladder drop. It shrieked to the ground, clanging of the bottom. He immendiatly followed it, with Rose close behind. He pushed a body reaching for them aside, and dashed torwards the street.
The truck honked its horn, and he sprinted torwards it, weaving through the mass of creeps. He jumped in the bed of the truck and laid flat.
Lifting his head, he peeked though the back window of a truck to see a young boy looking worridly at him and the back of the country girl's head. Hearing Rose call out, the boy pointed something out to the girl and she opened the sunroof on the truck. Standing up she shouldered a rifle as her long black hair fell down her shoulders. Letting a round fly, she shouted out to Rose and she ran to the truck. Another shot from the gun, and Rose had hopped into the truck with Dave. Slamming on the side of the truck in a hopeful signal, Dave yelled at the girl to punch it. She obliged him and they went racing down the street, into the darkness.
Chapter 10
This wasn't as fun as Jake had thought it would be. He had evisioned the apocolaypse as a fun, safe little hangout with all of his friends, having feasts together and holding off the infected like badasses, like in his moives. Instead it had become a long, miserable night waiting till the morning until they could go out and look for Roxy. Wondering if she was dead. Finally, the sun came up.
"Okay, lets go." He gripped his pistol and walked over to the barricade. The infected had stopped clawing at it about halfway through the night. Not like Dirk, Jane, or himself had slept at all though.
Dirk pushed the table aside and desended first. Jake followed close, and Jane brought up the rear, nervously fingering her pitchfork. They opened the front door and Jake walked to the middle of the street. Looking up and down the street, he waved and started walking torward Roxy's house.
Dirk jogged up to him, followed by Jane. "Dude! Be careful. We don't know what's waiting around here to raise hell on us."
"Dirk, nothing's here. The infected aren't exactly the quiet type." Jake picked up a smashed can and let it drop back down on to the asphalt.
Jane winced. "Please don't do that, Jake." She looked down at the ground, making sure to step around everything.
Jake scoffed. "Again Jane, they aren't the silent-"
Several gunshots rang out, cutting Jake off. They stopped for a moment, then started again. Dirk spun around and gripped his katana. Looking off, he sprinted into an alleyway. Jane followed him. Jake pulled out a pistol and ran after them. As he got closer, the shots got louder. Moans of infected began to mix in with the shots, along with a voice.
