Chapters 21-24

Chapter 21

They were going to see Jade. After a good hour of waiting by her truck, they got to see what had happened and how bad it was. They walked up the porch to the guy who had shot Jade, who was holding the door open. Dave still didn't trust him, but they needed to know that Jade was going to be fine.

He looked at them and slowly nodded. "Yeah, just don't fuck with our shit. I don't want to be wrong about the stupid thought I had about you people. But to drown myself further with bonding time, I'm Karkat."

Rose nodded. "I'm Rose, this is Dave and John. The poor soul you put a bullet in is Jade. May we...?"

Karkat kept nodding. "Come on."

He lead them down the hall to where a girl with red glasses and a machete was standing.

He touched her shoulder, and she turned torwards them, opening the door, saying, "Lets hope this is only for today."

They walked though the door, and saw Jade on the bed. A large bandage was over her midsection, and a woman was next to her, focused on it.

Karkat tapped her on the shoulder. "Kanaya, why is there a bandage there? We need to get the bullet out."

"Kanaya?" Rose moved to the other side of Jade, on the opposite side of Kanaya. "How far in did it go?"

Kanaya sighed. "That's the problem. It's too far in to go in without it being dangerous to her. If she moves, I could cut something, and she'd be dead."

"What do we need?" Dave was at the foot of the bed, moving down the width of the frame. It wasn't much, but he needed something to do besides see someone's body.

"Something to put her under with, and a mask to keep her lungs filled with oxygen. Otherwise, I can't do much."

Karkat moved to the door. "We can get that stuff from town. Quick in, out. No problems."

"No." Kanya's voice was hard, and did not allow room to argue. "Remember your own well being also."

"Fuck my well being. It's my fault." Karkat opened the door. "I'm going."

"Do you even know what they look like? Besides Kanaya, I do." Rose had been quietly looking through the bedrooms drawers until that point. "I'll come with you, you know where to go, I know what to get."

"Fine."

John was between Karkat and the door. As Karkat tried to pass him, he blocked the doorway. "I'm coming as well. You need more eyes."

"No John, you need to be here for Jade. What if she wakes up? She'd want to see you." Rose put her hand on his shoulder. "Please, stay."

John's eyes dropped to the floor. "Please be safe, Jade wants to see you again too."

Rose smiled. "I'm sure she does, John." She slowly moved him out of the way. She turend to Karkat. "Lets go."

They both walked out of the room. John brought a chair over to the bed Jade was on.

He sat down. "You'll be fine, Rose knows what you need."

They all heard a car engine, then the rumble of tires. They had left.

Terezi came into the room. "The fuck's Karkles doing now?"

Chapter 22

Jake woke up cold and wet. His vision was blurry, and he couldn't stand up. He put a hand to his head, and it came away wet. With what, he didn't know. It was too dark.
