Chapter 13

Vriska was a pain, Karkat decided as he listened to her scold Nepeta for going into her room. It wasn't a big deal, she was exploring like kids always did. Nepeta didn't need a scolding, she needed a task to occupy her. He sat at a table with Equius, Terezi and the woman. They were going to decide what was going to happen.

Karkat decided to start it. "Okay, so let's get this over with before Miss Serket figures out what we are doing. What are you planning on doing here?"

Equius wiped his face with a cloth before speaking. "As I said outside, we require shelter while this- problem, unfolds."

Terezi cocked her head torwards Equius. "What is unfolding anyway?"

Equius continued to wipe his face. "A sort of infection. We couldn't conclude what it is, but it works like a trasferable virus."

"A what?" Karkat scratched his head.

"Basically, if someone infected bites or maybe scratches someone not infected, they become infected." Equius paused. "We don't completely understand, all we know is that biting works always. If you are bitten, you're gone."

The woman shook her head. "It's a wonder we got out of the city. People like you weren't hit as hard, it seems."

Karkat shrugged. "Yeah, most people don't want to soil their golden shoes on our cow shit out here, so they live in the city. Also, I saw how bad it was in there. I went in the city to get Terezi and Tavros."

The woman somehow sat up straighter than she already was. "I'm impressed by your feat. It must have been very dangerous for you."

Karkat scoffed. "The fuckers couldn't run to save their dieseased lives."

Equius cleared his throat. "An impressive feat or not, we are here now. We won't be able to survive on what we have here for long, correct?"

Karkat nodded. "Yeah, I can't feed your fat forms for long."

The woman nodded. "It's clear then. We go back to the city for supplies and stockpile them here."

"That would be the smartest course of action." Equius agreed.

Terezi licked her lips. "Question is, who goes?"

"Nepeta stays." Equius said. "You and the disabled boy should as well."

"I'm not completely blind if that's why you want me to stay." Terezi frowned. "That cruiser only seats 5 people. I say Mr. Zahhak, Karkles, Vriska, you-" pointing at the woman, "and myself."

Karkat stood up. "We don't need to stuff the cop car fuller than Serket's attitude, remember. We don't need five."

The woman sighed. "We also don't need to use only the police car. I saw a vehicle in your barn. We can take everyone if we feel inclined to do so."

"What the fuck? Why were you snooping around my barn?" Karkat's hands clenched.

The woman laid her hands on the table. "I wasn't hurting anyone, and I thought it would be useful. It was useful."

Karkat grunted. "Fine, use the car. Burn our gas up. Let's take everyone back for a fieldtrip to hell! Wouldn't that be a fucking joyride?"

Equius stiffened. "Nepeta's staying here."

"Fine! I don't give a shooting shit!" Karkat walked to the door. "I'll get the car ready, you get everyone prepared."

He walked the short distance to the barn and opened it. The small car inside had barely ever been used. He had been planning on using it for a last resort escape. Now he got into the ancient machine. He pulled the key out of the glove compartment and put it into the ignition. After a few tries, it croaked to life.
