After 2 long, agonizing hours of silence in the Hornet, I decided to break the ice with some music. Swiftly plugging my ipod into the sound system, Tanner Patrick’s ‘Merry Go Round,’ softly wafted through the car hoping to ease the tense atmosphere.
“I escape in to the sound, sound, sound,
Spinning like a merry go round, round, round,
I don’t ever wanna slow down, down, down,
I trust this ride tonight
I like what you do to me,
Without you I’m incomplete,
You always get me started,
When I escape into the sound, sound, sound,
Spinning like a merry go round, round, round”
“Turn that off!” Kayden snapped. “It’s so freaking repetitive!” Ignoring his comment, I increased the volume, nodding my hand to the beat of the song. So much for easing the tension…
“And how come your parents haven’t called yet?” Kayden snapped angrily. Whoa someone was PMSing! Was he on his man period?! “Don’t they care about your safety at all?”
I exhaled a breath of frustration, he was definitely an amateur at the whole kidnapping thing.
“Don’t you know you’re not supposed to call the hostage in a kidnap situation? That could endanger their life if the captor ever found out they were communicating with someone!” Idiot…
“Oh.”
“And besides, my parents are pretty chill with the whole thing by now,” I muttered. It was true though, we repeated this process at least once a month so they learned how to keep their cool in these situations.
“Well text them you’re okay so something,” Kayden mumbled much to my surprise. “Let them know you’re safe.”
I was lost for words. No kidnapper, and I repeat, NO KINAPPER, has ever given me the privilege to text or call my parents to tell them I was okay. My only communication with them was always a note I was forced to leave at home. What Kayden was allowing me; well that’s definitely a first.
“Thank you,” I whispered, “You have no idea what that means to me.” He was so sweet sometimes…
“Yeah, yeah, yeah Princess, you know you love me.” Wow way to kill the moment… you arrogant douche!
I quickly sent a text to my parents. ‘I’m okay guys. Love you lots <3 see you ASAP!’
Less than a minute later, my phone began to vibrate in my pocket.
BUZZZZ ‘One New Text Message’. Well that was fast…
I swiped the screen of my iphone to check it out but it wasn’t from my parents.
‘Can we talk? Please?’ It was from my lovely ex, Keith. IGNORE! I deleted the message and sighed; I didn’t really have the heart to block his number or anything.
BUZZZZZ ‘Please Mac?’ Whatever! IGNORE!
BUZZZZ ‘I know I messed up’ you got that right buddy! IGNORE!
