Kayden! <3 LOL Matt Lanter is oh so hot damn fine! :) & one of my all time favorite songs, MOMENTS by ONE DIRECTION!
“Begin,” Briggs sneered, the horrible stench of stale cigarettes slowly wafting into my nose. Ironically, his stinky mouth was set with perfect, white teeth. Not something you’d expect from a drug lord, go figure.
The timer was set. Time was ticking. I had to begin. And at that, I couldn’t help but feel like Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games when she was thrown into the arena. Because just like her, I had to think fast. Flight was essential. My life and my love’s was on the line.
“The.vault.is.located.off.the.coast.of.New.Zealand.on.a.small.private.island.The.only.transportation.to.its remote.location.is.by.boat.The.exact.coordinates.can.be.found.in.a.wooden.box.hidden.in.the.shed.in.my.backyard.Theres.no.security.except.a.motion.sensor.that.if.tripped.sends.signals.back.home.to.my.parents.No.ones.ever.found.it.before.or.has.ever.been.close.to.finding.it.Please.just.let.Kayden.go.now!”
I inhaled a huge breath of oxygen as I gagged the last part. I can’t believe I just said that all in one mouthful!
Eyeing Briggs, I silently prayed my little speech made sense; I had spewed it all out in one breath causing each word to violently slur into the next as if I was drunk.
His eyes lit up, his wicked smile told me he was pleased. “Excellent Ms. Hales, very good.”
I swallowed the uncomfortable lump in my throat. “Please just let us go, you got what you want now.”
He laughed and bent down to my level, his creepy smile stretching from the corners of his cruel mouth.
In the dim light, Briggs reminded me of Lewis Carol’s Cherisher Cat from Alice in Wonderland. How his creepy smile would still remain in the air even when he physically wasn’t there… wonder if Alice was ever weirded out; the cat always reminded me of a pedophile…
“Au Contraire Ms. Hales,” he maliciously cackled, “You’re so much more than our little heiress. You’re practically a map! A map to so many more treasures. And what’s best about this map? You’re also the key.”
With that his greedy eyes began to light up and it seemed like the whites of it turned yellow in the horrible lighting of the room.
“You know how so many of these vaults work because of your parents. You know the location of many. You know how to get pass them. Don’t try denying because you’ll only put yourself in an agonizing situation. We both know you are as fully informed about the vaults as any other billionaire owning one. Am. I. Correct?” He sneered, carefully articulating each syllable so that his tongue made a sharp click at the end.
“Yes.” My voice was barely audible, he was spot on correct.
“I thought so,” he smiled, leaning back satisfied. “And Kayden here? He’s our little bait to make sure you don’t ever step out of line.”
My eyes shot up. No, no please no. Kayden? Bait? We instantly locked eyes and I ignored the burning guilt. They wanted me, not him, and no he has to suffer the consequences as ‘bait’ because of me.
Even beaten, he looked hot. His eyes still were kindling with determination to get free even when his body looked otherwise, and that my friends, is very very attractive.
I only had enough time to register him mouth ‘run’ (wait whaaa?!) before he broke from his restraints and grabbed me, dragging out of the room leaving the baffled thugs speechless.
“Holy Cow holy cow holy cow!” I muttered as we descended from a flight of stairs and into an empty warehouse, the sound of frantic feet close on our heels, “How’d you get free?”
